"Nike workers in Thailand wrote to Woods, expressing their “utmost respect for your skill and perseverance as an athlete” but pointing out that they would need to work 72,000 years “to receive what you will earn from [your Nike] contract”."

What an asinine remark. There are many hundreds of millions more people in the world who can make shoes than play golf like Tiger Woods - but only if someone else provides them with the leather, the machinery, the factory, the design, the transport and distribution network, the telecommunications, the customers, the insurances, the shipping, and the capital to pay for all those people to be supported between the time they start production, and the time the income comes in. Otherwise they could just make the shoes without all that collaboration from other people, or better still, play golf like Tiger Woods, and pocket the difference.
