Abortion and moral discourse : Comments

By Peter Sellick, published 30/7/2015

Those theologians who study modernity will point to the European Enlightenment as the time when we lost the capacity for moral argument.

"If infanticide is murder, as it is, abortion is murder. So abortion is not only morally wrong, but ought to be legally prohibited."

Grown animals are typically more developed, physically, mentally and emotionally, than babies, certainly unborn ones, thus killing them, especially for the purpose of eating their flesh, is also murder, yet it is not illegal!

And you accuse others of inflexibility and endless repetition!
The moral argument was lost around the time we began to realize that a control freak religion was wrong; and every which way!

As was hanging folks who were born different or burning them at the stake just because they were exceptionally gifted! And on the moral authority of just like you, self appointed judges!?

That we lived on a round planet that was more than 6,000 years old; and certainly was not at the very centre of revolving around us universe.

And that all oxygen breathing mammalian life as we know it is accompanied by a beating heart!

And when peadophiles were not only protected by our so called moral guardians, but relocated to where they could endlessly reoffend.

Or when the dutiful brides of Christ were used by his so called representatives for their pleasure?

Hence the often unexplained unmarked grave yards on church property full of infant remains?

And you and others of your ilk have the unmitigated gall to stand there presenting as some sort of moral arbiter or moral (do as I say, not as I do) compass for the world and as usual; a self appointed moral judge; entirely reliant on words on paper written/penned every one by mere men for that self appointed Authority!

Claiming among all those other false claims to be divinely inspired!

And require folks to somehow suppress their God given natural sexuality because of your other mistaken or fundamentally flawed beliefs!

The fact that you and Thomas Aquinas agree on almost everything does in no provable way make either of you right!

Get over it, the church surrendered any and all moral authority ages ago; and for the almost endless reasons stated above!

I'll answer for my actions and their reactions with a clear conscience; you see you do the same as a opposed to endless mealy mouthed moralising!

Let he that is without sin cast the first stone!
Rhrosty.

Really Sells?
You are still going on about legal abortion rights?
Rhosty is no 'troll' for merely having views that don't agree with yours.

"Those theologians who study modernity..." That statement is surely an oxymoron?

Your favoured 'Christians' are no more likely to be more 'moral' than anyone from other religions, or from among those who don't believe in any gods or fairies, so don't go putting yourself up on any holy pedestal.

You have a right to express your opposition to abortion, but it is legal and safe in Australia and it will remain that way.
Religious men have lost the 'power' they once had to control the masses and dictate what women should and shouldn't do.
Get over it and move on.
