The Strangelove effect: how we are hoodwinked into accepting a new world war : Comments

By John Pilger, published 24/4/2014

In February, the United States mounted one of its proxy 'colour' coups against the elected government of Ukraine; the shock troops were fascists.

Pilger alert! You are in danger of being Pilgerised!

White is black, war is peace, freedom is slavery. No truth not able to be denied, no falsehood too grubby to be asserted as true.

No overbearing dictator is too abusive of human rights for the Old Leftist, when there is the United States to blame for the troubles of humanity.

Free speech has always been given to old quislings like this, and yet we get lawfare and women thought enforcers forming a circle around outspoken normal people, chanting SHUT UP! SHUT UP!

Justice will have its way; few will bother reading when they see the by-line. Those that do, will have their pre-existing leftist mental illness coddled.

The only hoodwinking attempted here, seems to be those of the author, or his half a dozen or so supporters/fellow travelers!
Perhaps the Author might be able to be more even handed/fair minded in his judgement calls, if he just took off the ideological blinker?
You know, the one that looks like a blindfold.
John, if you think Russia is such a great place, go live there, and indeed, continue to earn an income, as a so-called, investigative journalist!?
There are none so blind as those who will not see!

Once again we have the accusation, without a shred of supporting evidence that the Government in Kiev consists of fascists and neo-Nazis. This assertion originally came from the Kremlin and has been taken up enthusiastically amid the ranks of the Putin apologists. However, it is disappointing that the chorus includes the once respected and award-winning member of my profession, John Pilger. One must sadly assume that his investigative facilities and sense of balanced reporting have been blunted by advancing age. For the record the Ukrainian Government is mostly drawn from two parties – Batkivshchyna, whose titular head is Yulia Tymoshenko and is considered centre-right, and Svoboda which certainly had its roots in the far right, but has moderated its stance in recent years. It might also be noted that the leftist Party of the Regions of ousted President Viktor Yanukovych continues to attend Parliament in opposition. Allegations that the Government is anti-Semitic have been refuted by the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Moshe Reuven Alman, who said that not a single instance of anti-Semitic attacks have been reported to him in Western Ukraine since the revolution. One can only assume that amid the plunder the old Soviet Union took out of Germany at the end of World War II was the Joseph Goebbels playbook on the bigger the lie the more likely it is to be believed.

What I love about Pilger, the Sunlamp Codger, is that his brain, long past its Use By Date, continues to draw curiosity.

As for US Defense Secretary Charles "Chuck" Hagel, sure he likes a case of Jack Daniels or two. But when he's pickled and his elbow's on the launch button our otherwise long suffering lives might become very exciting. Scares the hell out of Chinese and makes Putin poo his pants.

Chuck could pummel Pilger any day o the week.

Pete, you may crave excitement in your life but most normal people can well do without it especially if it involves nukes.

What brought you to this war-worshiping state of mind, Pete? Didn't you read Biggles and listen to Superman and Tarzan like normal kids?

Didn't ya recognise that my comment:

"As for US Defense Secretary Charles "Chuck" Hagel, sure he likes a case of Jack Daniels or two. But when he's pickled and his elbow's on the launch button our otherwise long suffering lives might become very exciting."

..was a criticism of Hagel, US cowboy politics, and a denunciation of nuclear war.

Let's see:

The US is sending 600 troops to Poland, a sovereign country. Russia has 140,000 troops right on Ukraine's border.

Biden has just been visiting Ukraine, a sovereign country. Ukraine has the right to host whoever the hell it likes.

Who has interfered in the internal affairs of another country ? [God, I'm so old-fashioned, to think that it matters]. Are Poles or Americans taking over government buildings in western Ukraine, or kidnapping, torturing and murdering officials there ? Not as far as I know.

Is the US demanding that people in western Ukraine (or anywhere else, for that matter) submit to a referendum under their supervision, on the subject of secession and incorporation into the US ? Not as far as I know.

If any group tried to take over government buildings and murder officials here in some part of Australia, what would be your response, dear reader ? Would you give them the slightest time of day ?

Or would you wait and see what position the US would take on that issue first ? Then decide ? i.e. opportunism ?

I was born on the Left and I'll die on Left, but it's not the same 'Left' as that of unprincipled scum like Pilger's.

Arjay praising Pilger - well, it's all anti-US, isn't it, so it must be okay.

What a bankrupt bunch. And their best effort - Poirot's and Foxy's - is 'nyah, nyah, well, you did too ...'

Sometimes I weep for a genuine, principled, thinking, Left. Those were the days.

And to back up your argument Loudmouth:

Its the propaganda from Russia's main international news agency Russia Today "RT" that feeds the shallow minds of the Useful Idiots who consider Ukraine to be the product of an American plot.

Check out this article http://rt.com/news/154320-moscow-troops-withdrawal-ukraine/ "Kiev must immediately de-escalate east Ukraine crisis, call back troops - Moscow"

From this the Useful Idiots would mouth the moronic that "Ukraine is invading Russia".

Cheers

So Loudmouth ,you support the illegal ousting of a popular elected Govt in the Ukraine by the Western backed neo-Nazi movement?

This is Russia's back yard like Canada is to the USA and there's no way the USA would tolerate such interference y Russia.

The real reason why Russia and China are being demonised is they have economies backed by Govt banks that our Western parasite bankers want. This is the way in which they attain Global dominance. Read 'Confessions of and Economic Hitman' by John Perkins.Learm about the evil perpetrated by the USA and it's banksters.

Pilger nor Alex Jones are conspiracy theorists.Human beings have always conspired for power as read in Shakespear's plays. This is conspiracy fact.

How powerful would you be if you could create all the money of this planet as debt and loan it to Govts and Corporations. You would have absolute power just like our private Central Banks. Why has Tony Abbott recently told us that the Govt debt is no longer $300 billion but more than double this? Who created all this debt out of thin air ?

What happened to our Govt debt Loudmouth when Labor sold off 4 Govt banks and the Commonwealth?

Suggest you get educated. http://www.globalresearch.ca/

The critics of John Pilger on this topic have been found seriously wanting. Both Malcolm Fraser and Paul Keating have echoed fears if US/British imperialism leading us to a devastating WW3.Malcolm has resigned from the Liberal Party in protest.

George Bush Senior first mentioned 'The New World Order' back in 1992.His son mentioned it many times along with numerous leaders including Tony Blair ,Gordon Brown and even Barack Obama.

Why do the critics of Pilger call him a conspiracy theorist when our leaders have condemned themselves by their own words? The New World Order was and is about an unelected World Govt run by a few corporate elites.

This means that on planet they perceive to be over populated, we will have absolutely no rights.

''That Bay of Pigs Thing"
http://www.redressonline.com/2014/04/targeted-killing-could-become-a-game-for-all/
Back in 1973, Richard Nixon was tape recorded worrying about the truth coming out about "that Bay of Pigs thing."

What the heck was he talking about and why was he so worried?

For the first time ever, we answer that question is greater detail than you've probably ever heard.

When Nixon was Vice President under Eisenhower, Eisenhower gave him the job of putting together a global assassination team to look after America's interests.

One of their first projects was providing logistics, training, and intelligence for the Bay of Pigs invasion. When that failed, they went after Castro.

Along the way, they killed a few other folks like John F Kennedy and then his brother Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King.

The same team of people were involved in all three assassinations as well as countless other murders and "dirty tricks" of various kinds.

Guess who was given the job of paymaster for this team?

Skull and Bones man George Herbert Walk Bush who was, in effect, president from the time Reagan was shot (very early in his first term) though puppet/cokehead Bill Clinton and all the way through the present day Barack Obama puppet/dopefiend.

Get the picture now?

John Pilger had better not return to Australia. With this post alone, he is clearly in breach of Australian law, specifically, Section C of the Racial Discrimination Act. Pilger's analysis would clearly "offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate" Americans, and it is therefore and act of Discrimination.

Discriminating against people on the basis of their colour, ethnicity or national origin is illegal in this country, Pilger.

After getting the Intervention in the Northern Territory so wrong, I'm no great fan of Pilger. But on this one, he hits the nail on the head.
The war for Ukraine is a wholly-owned enterprise by the corporate west. The goal is to dismember Russia, control the energy fields of central Asia, contain China and further cement the Anglo-Zionist unipolar world.
America, who has given us an arc of instability from the Atlantic to the Indus Valley now wants to give us another from the Baltic and Black Seas to Vladivostok.
The Orwellian thinking, the scale of hypocrisy, employed to advance this agenda is simply astonishing. Goebbels' play-book didn't migrate anywhere. It stayed right where it has always been - in the west.
Control China! What terror that emerging force must inspire in the chancelleries and boardrooms of the West. Obama is currently on a selling trip to our region. He is setting the stage for his successor.
And in Australia? We are being promised economic benefits if we support the American war economy by buying $12 billion of their problem-plagued stealth fighters. Good thinking!

There are some I almost always disagree with; but may on rare occasion, find agreement with!
There are others I almost always agree with; but on rare occasions, may disagree with.
I believe it is called rational thinking and or, deciding on the relevant issues, not the usual suspects or personalities!
As a matter of historical exactitude, I think I may have agreed with JP, once, if memory serves?
Well, I think there just has to be one or two days now and then, when he remembers his medication, or should that read, forgets to smoke it?

I might choose to agree or disagree with U.O.G, if only I could follow his (E..x..TR..em ..EL..y) disjointed essays. My dyslexic brother simply can't!
Maybe that what he wants, people unable to follow his line of reasoning, or maybe, its his subliminal way, of awakening a sleeping cell?

As for hope?
Well when nothing else remains, there is always hope.

If Pilger's comments on US Defense Secretary Chuck "Puke" Hagel's diplomacy are to be believed then the following newsflash may indeed be accurate:

"Hagel Blowing Deployment Money On Strippers, Beer" April 16, 2014

WASHINGTON — After returning from his latest deployment to visit troops overseas, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is spending...After downing several pitchers of beer he takes a limousine downtown to The Shadow Room, where he spends several hundred dollars in [censored].

“He was here last night,” bartender John Ray said. “He walked in, ordered bottle service, and started drinking straight from the bottle. He got so drunk we had to kick him out. As the bouncer was dragging him towards the door he shouted ‘Time to get [censored]!’ Then he asked where he could find the closest [censored] club.”

"Hagel has become a regular at Archibald’s Gentlemen’s Club, where he likes to “make it rain [censored]” according to witnesses nearby. Several dancers have complained about his conduct in the private rooms.

Candy Paradise, whose stage name is ‘Destiny,’ said [censored] while he was handing me twenties,” she said. “He kept complaining about [censored] cost. He told me ‘I could get three [censored] in Vietnam for that much.’ I don’t care, I’m not a [censored]. I’m a [redacted].”

While the Joint Chiefs have tried to tell him he was wasting his money and would have nothing to show for it, Hagel has been [censored].

“No way,” he said, “I just bought a black ‘96 Mustang for $50,000, zero down and 30% interest. I’m getting a bargain.”"

[really, really censored]

I rest on my own case.

Hal,

There may be many more devils in the world worse that the US, which presents all of us with a permanent dilemma - in any particular situation, is Power A or power B more dangerous, or less dangerous, than the US ? In any three-way struggle (and they are far more common than two-way struggles), if we want to get interested, we have to hold our noses and calculate which side or sides to support and which to oppose: which is 'better', and which is the worst.

So every situation demands judgment, there is no one-shot answer like "US bad ! All else good !".

So in this situation, let's see: imagine that Ukrainians have invaded parts of south-western Russia, taken over government buildings, raised foreign flags (i.e. committed treason), seized property, kidnapped and murdered officials, &c.

Would Russia be completely within its rights, as a sovereign country, to storm those buildings, arrest murderers, and expel any invaders ? Of course it would.

Would Ukraine have any right to interfere in Russia's internal affairs in case of internal troubles ? No, of course not. Ukraine would have to respect Russia's boundaries, and leave its internal affairs up to the Russian people, even if they are backed up by fascists like Zhirinovsky. Isn't that so ?

So when the jackboot's on the other foot ? As a pseudo-Left opportunist, which way are you going to jump, Hal ? Oh, sorry, you already have.

Joe

I recently read an interesting article in a
where the author pointed out
that "What happened after World War II that
enabled the countries of Europe to develop in
relative peace was an agreement, often a tacit
agreement, to regard the territories of all
independent states as "exempt from being taken
over by their neighbours in "small wars," small
wars that often ended up by dragging other
neighbours in ever bigger and bigger wars."

"What happened now in Ukraine, breaks that tacit
agreement not to invade neighbours. The tacit
agreement that kept at least Europe in relative peace
for nearly three quarters of a century was broken.
The "Greater Russia, as the current leaders seem to
like to call the remnants of the Soviet Empire, has
invaded a part of another independent country, Ukraine,
and absorbed that part - the Crimea, into the
"Greater Russia."

"The "referendum" to join up with the invading state
was taken after the invasion. It matters not that the
soldiers of the invading country removed insignia from
their uniform. It doesn't matter how farcically unbalanced
the referendum questions were, it doesn't matter how
jubilantly the crowds in the capital of the "Greater
Russia" greeted the "new era" of expansion."

"What does matter is that this breach of the territorial
integrity of another country has started a new era.
We are returning to the pre-World War II behaviour of
some nations. It is a start of expansionism, ignoring
all norms of international treaties and agreements."

It is too easy to brush aside the events that are
unfolding.

It is unwise to ignore the fire that has
already started as nobody can predict where it will
end. We need to care what is happening in the Ukraine.

Have you seen the graphic TV re-broadcast of a TV
program in Moscow that reminded in threatening tones
that Russia "was the only power able to destroy
New York and other American ctieis, leaving behind
only radio active ashes?"

It is worth noting that it was shown at the same time
as the invasion of Crimea by the Russian troops.

I wasn't going to post further on this stream, but then I came across this gem in the Vineyard of the Saker blog. Since it seems to nicely sum up so much of the strident nonsense that we hear coming from the Robber Barons and their attendant scoundrels, and echoed in some of the ill-advised posts above, that I thought I would share it with you.
Apparently when desperate, lawyers sometimes employ the "last resort rule". It goes like this: “If you have the law, hammer the law. If you have the facts, hammer the facts. If you have neither the law nor the facts, hammer the table”.
I am especially reminded of VP Biden's quite hilarious and astonishingly hypocritical castigation of Russia's threat to cut off Ukraine's gas supply unless it pulled its head in as taking unfair economic advantage. And this from that Queen of Unfair Economic Advantage, the US, with its default to sanctions whenever things don't go their way.
I do wonder if this Ukraine imbroglio will result in China and Russia signing an energy pact in yuan and roubles, thereby undercutting the US dollar as the only international currency. What then for all those sanctions?
No wonder the west, and the US in particular, is packing it.

‘morning John,

The problem you have when you blame the USA for everything is that you end up “hoodwinking” yourself.

It is possible that the USA is partly to blame but for different reasons. The Obama administration is weak, incompetent, verbose and indecisive. This in part, has given Putin the rationale to respond to what Putin sees as the real threats.

These are threats to the hard earned Russian dominance in energy security over the EU, the threats from a meddling and posturing EU in trying to recruit the Ukraine, the threat of a NATO alliance with the Ukraine blocking access to one of Russia’s biggest military bases and their only all year round Navy base.

Putin will be eternally grateful to the renewable energy program in Europe for dismantling their energy security and for making the EU one of his biggest Gas customers.

This leverage will be lost in the next ten years as the EU fills the short term energy needs from surplus US fossil fuels and the EU’s switch back to fossil fuels and Fracking like mad for the medium term.

The USA has increased fossil fuel stockpiles to the highest since the Great Depression and crude production is the highest in 26 years.

The US is having it’s cake and eating it. They help out their “friends” in the EU with their little “de-carbonization” energy problem, make a heap of dosh in doing so and, as a little bonus, they get to choke off one of Russia’s best little earners.

So there you go John, if you had not been so self absorbed with your anti-US crusade, you might have spotted the real game in the changing geo-politics. You might have also missed the Russian joint energy ventures with Turkey and Israel, and that 26% of all global fossil fuel venture acquisitions in 2013 were by the Chinese.

We all have our little passions but when you get as obsessive as you do, it changes the game to “Garbage in and Garbage out”.

Hal,

To continue:

Would it be legitimate for Ukraine to send planes to intrude into Russian air-space ? No, of course not.

Would it be legitimate for Ukraine to seize a party of observers from the EU ? No, of course not.

Any thoughts ? Do you still want to roll over on your belly for Putin ?

Hi Foxy,

So, which country after Ukraine ? Are there any in the region of eastern Europe with enclaves of Russians in or nearby ? Moldova of course, and Lithuania with the Kaliningrad enclave on its south-west. How long before we hear from Hal of peace-loving Russians being harassed by Lithuanian fascists, or some such excuse for invasion ?

I really do weep for any genuine Left.

Joe, what the world needs at this point in time is not weeping Lefties or duplicitous words of wisdom from Oily Oligarchs and Capitalist Robber Barons.

No, Joe, what we need is to hear the voices of the billions of proles who have had enough of the manipulation and tricks of the consciousless wealthy and are ready to consign them to the furnaces.

What we need, Joe, is a world that operates for the benefit of normal people rather than for the benefit of crooks and crims and clerics, for those for whom billions of dollars is never enough, for those who seek to emulate the fiction of their Gods.

Those who worship money and power are sick, Joe. They are the types who will use nukes if it advances their selfish agenda, who will wipe out whole races of people without a moment's hesitation, who will live in bunkers for centuries if that is the price they have to pay to achieve ultimate power.

Yes, Joe, humans are the curse of this world. Many humans are madmen, people like Obama, Blair, Howard, Netanyahu, Cheney, Kerry, etc, like crap they float to the surface and despoil whatever they touch.

Our world needs to be purged of them, remove them from their places of power and influence, cleanse the world, make a fresh start and strictly limit the amount of power any one human can have!

We must worship new icons, not the selfish turds who endlessly visit war and greed upon our suffering world.

If the Crimea didn't have significant oil and gas reserves, would Putin been interested in the plight of its Russian speakers?
Had the Ukraine had not recently discovered large oil and gas bearing shale deposits in the east, would Putin be bothered about the rights of Russian speakers?
I mean, just look at his history, and the way he quite blatantly tramples all over the rights of some Russian speakers in Russia? Or investigative Journalists!? I mean, just what is the life expectancy, for a Russian investigative Journalist in Russia!?
I think we in the west could make billions, if we were in the male bovine manure/organic compost business, and just followed Putin with a shovel, and here I mean the kind you might find, in an open cut coal mine!

"If the Crimea didn't have significant oil and gas reserves, would Putin been interested in the plight of its Russian speakers?"
Yes, he would have been. Sevastopol is Russia's only warm water port, is its access to the Mediterranean, and has been part of Russia since they took it from the Turks in 1783. Khrushchev, a Ukrainian, gave it to Ukraine only 50 years ago when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union.
The recent provocation in Kiev was in no small part a desire by NATO to dislodge Russia from the port in Sevastopol, and Putin was not prepared to countenance that.
When the Soviet Union broke apart, the West (EU, US and NATO) agreed not to move into the former states of the Warsaw Pact. They began their move east before the ink was dry on that agreement. Putin, quite rightly, has said enough is enough.
Now Kiev, with the West's backing, is trying to provoke Russia into crossing openly into eastern Ukraine. They may succeed. But they may not. I hope they don't. Left to its own devices, Ukraine will implode soon enough.
Russia may, however, have to cut off the gas going to Ukraine due to unpaid bills. If they do, much of the gas destined for western Europe could also get cut. What foolish games are being played. And to what end?
There's a good question. To what end? Who started this confrontation, and what is their endgame? I still think the wheat fields are as important a factor as any gas reserves.

David G.,

The dreadful nefariousness of the world's bankers is neither here nor there in this issue of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

But I liked your self-portrait: "He sees the world in black and white as dumb-asses across the world tend to do." Brilliant !

Yes, the world is vastly more subtle and nuanced - there may well be fascists on both sides of the Ukraine conflict. And democrats too, and old communists, and old-church Christians, and Muslims, and Cossacks and Circassians, and pro- and anti-US and -EU as well. And Ukrainians pitching for Russia, and Russians pitching for Ukraine. Etc., etc.

So like it or not, even you have to weigh up carefully all the pros and cons of each side: it's certainly not all black and white.

Hal,

The US and the EU engineered a provocation to Russia over the Crimea ? So what was their Plan B ? They did seem to have been caught flat-footed - are you suggesting that they provoked their own outwitting ? Do you have the slightest evidence ?

Plantagenent," Explain my economic theories?" We look at the instigation of the private US Federal Reserve however before this we need to look at the 1890's Depression.

In 1873 the elite central bankers removed all the cheap silver money from the US economy and replaced it with their gold. This was known as the crime of 73.Since the elites had most of the gold they reduced the money supply by 80% and assumed most of the wealth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swkq2E8mswI You need to see 'The Secret of Oz' to really understand.

L Frank Baum who wrote 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' had a powerful economic message in it. The Cowardly Lion represented William Jennings Brian whom Baum had accompanied in his pursuit to defeat the gold bugs and end the Depression. Brian failed to become President and defeat the Wicked Witches of the East and West. The Wicked Witches were JP Morgan and JD Rockefeller the two major banking powers of that time.

In Dec 1913 President Woodrow Wilson signed away the right of Congress to create new money for growth + inflation to the Private US Federal Reserve. It was interesting that William Jennings Brian as Congressman voted for the Private Fed thinking like others, that Congress would have power over them. Slowly Congress lost that power.

Soon after this,WW1 began and central Bankers like the Rothschilds made money getting all sides of this war into debt. They also have shares in arms, building, ships etc and make fortunes loaning to our Govts. This was the beginning of a Global private Central Banking system and their dream of conquering the planet.

You missed the Bank of England and the economic power of London "the City" generally - in the period you've just described.

I'm assuming relevance to Ukraine is coming? For example the Russian economy has been extremely influential to the Ukrainian economy for 100s of years up to this moment.

Plantagenet, Money has not intrinsic worth. It is just a medium of exchange and a store of wealth. Money represents human endeavour but our financial system has turned it into a commodity that gets perverted by their derivative scams.

If private banks can create new money from nothing as debt to = growth + inflation of any nation, then they own us and our Govts.

Mayer Armchel Rothschild, "Give me control of a nations currency and I care not who makes the laws." They now control most of the planet via debt but Russia and China have too many Govt Banks which makes them mostly independent of their thieving system.

The Private Bank of International Settlements makes all the rules for our banks to function. APRA is not answerable to our Govt but to the private BIS. This group has shares in all the major Corporations on the planet and all our banks. They can determine who our enemies will be and what wars we fight because they control the media and politicians via the creation of money.

Yoo hoo, Arjay.

If Dr. Paul Roberts is blaming the US for Russia's invasion of the Ukraine, then I don't think I will even bother reading his book. I would place his intellectual acumen alongside books by Ufologists who claim that they were abducted by aliens, , people who claim Elvis is still alive, holocaust deniers, "stolen generation" advocates, and that character who wrote a book claiming that Harold Holt was a Chinese spy who got picked up by a Chinese submarine.

If you want people to believe in your leftist propaganda, Arjay, the trick is to make it just a little bit credible, or people know that you are just a dingbat. Try pretending to be even handed once in a while. Give the yanks some credit now and again. Once people know that you have a pathological hatred for Americans and that you see can nothing but US insidiousness, your credibility is shot and everybody just laughs at you.

Your pathetic efforts resemble the "confessions" submitted to the UN by the North Koreans purported to be by shot down US pilots in the Korean war. They began with headings like "HOW MY CRUEL CAPITALIST MASTERS FORCED ME TO PERFORM INHUMAN GERM WARFGARE ON PEACE LOVING SOCIALIST PEOPLE."

Nobody bought that crap,(except you) and nobody is buying your crap either. In a way, people like you are a wonderful embarrassment to the whole lefty cause, and a shot in the arm for us patriots. Even Plantagenet and Haldual must be wincing and looking askance at you, and wishing you would just go away.

Sickos support war. They get their jollies watching footage of folk being killed, blown to pieces, burned alive, suffering from depleted uranium exposure, poisoned gas, torture.

Women, kids, doesn't matter to sickos. As long as blood is running in the streets and people are screaming in agony they're happy.

Of course, if their share portfolio is going through the roof, they are even happier. For them, watching action on the killing fields while making money from it is sublime.

You can tell from the comments above who are the sickos! They are despicable and they love war especially big ones that take out millions!

But history shows us that sickos eventually get caught in their own net.

Live by the sword and you'll die by it!

Poor LEGO ,reduced to ad hominem and can't argue the reality. How powerful would you be LEGO if you could create all the money you wanted and loan it to all the Govts and Corporations on the planet as debt? You would have absolute power. Are you denying that the private central banking system exists or are you just another paid internet troll?

Plantagenet,"How does all this fit with the Ukraine ?" Well Russia used to part of this NWO concept of Global Governance. Putin changed all that with the nationalising of gas and oil reserves and ridding his country of 30 shadow banks and controlling derivative scams.

Putin has stood up to our financial oligarchs stopping attacks on Syria and Iran. If NATO get a foothold in the Ukraine, Putin knows he will see US defence missile shields on his door step like they tried to do in Georgia. Would the USA tolerate Russian missiles in Canada or Cuba?

Note also that the Ukrainian gold has now been taken by the US Fed like Libya's and Germany's. Germany cannot get their gold back. We have no gold reserves yet are the 3rd biggest producer on the planet.

The West think they can bluff Putin into submission and are playing a very dangerous game of nuclear chicken.

Hi Foxy,

" .... the

But isn't this exactly what Putin has been doing ? Invading Crimea in the name of Mother Russia ? Invading parts of eastern Ukraine in the name of 'New Russia', NovoRossiya ?

In what conceivable way have any Ukrainians misused the notion of the defence of their own country against blatant aggression from another country ? Has Ukraine sliced off bits of southern Russia, in the name of regaining beloved ancestral territory bla-bla ? Who has used that pretext, Ukraine or Russia ?

And who do you think will be next, Foxy ?

I was not referring to Putin.

Thank you, Foxy,

I don't think there is remotely anything 'Left' about Putin, I suspect he represents the worst aspects, the most reactionary aspects, of the 'Great Russian' imperialist mentality which - if we are to be honest - has continued unabated from long before the 1917 Revolution right through Lenin and Stalin's times, Khrushchev and Brezhnev's times, and since.

Imperialism is a very difficult habit to get out of. Tsarism had a peculiarly absolutist side - 'For the Tsar, God and Country' - which was never to be questioned. So it is today in Putin's Russia.

Yes, I hope, probably vainly, that the fires he is lighting will peter out. But let's face it, he owns the Russian media, the world-wide Russian TV machine. So any hope that the Russian people will see sense and let other countries alone may be doomed.

As you fear, Foxy, which country will be next ?

If only there was still a Left with courage and integrity. Another lifelong illusion dashed.

Love,

Joe

Russia already had virtual unlimited access to a warm water port, in Crimea, and just needed to update the lease!
The real reason is very likely the oil and gas reserves, and Putin's ability, to use energy resources as an economic weapon.
He seems to be repeating a successful reunification formula with a once independent Georgia?
He can take what he likes, if the bites are small enough and the real opposition very weak or as badly divided as the Ukraine!
And who can or will stop him, when that requires boots on the ground and commitment to stay the course until the end!
The brutal roman empire ended, because it became too big to control, and filled with too many dissenters. [The slaves turned on their masters!]
As long as a brutal Putin continues to alienate his own people, and many of those he has conquered, with brute force control; he will hold on to his conquests, not that much longer than the equally brutal Nazi's held on to French conquests!
Like all the self evident megalomaniacs who proceeded him, he is just too arrogant, fundamentally flawed and self deluded, to adapt to and roll out those policies, that win the hearts and minds as well!
He being who he really is, the new all powerful Czar, just doesn't believe he has too?
And he believes, that many voting Russians approve of the gradual expansion? They also approved of the pullout from Afghanistan, given the continuing cost of that conflict, one that very nearly bankrupted Russia!
He and his current moves are very popular in Russia? And he does have an election to win?
What will those same voters believe, when the bills associated with just holding on to those new acquisitions, come rolling in!?
But particularly, if new oil discoveries elsewhere, drive down the price of energy, say, to below the cost to Russia, of just producing a barrel of fuel/cubic metre of scrubbed gas?
I can remember, when a barrel of oil only cost the west $10.00!
Understand?

Dear Joe (Loudmouth),

As I wrote in my earlier post -
What matters is that this breach of the territorial
integrity of another country has started a new era.
We are returning to the pre-World War II behaviour
of the Soviet Union. It is a start of expansionism,
ignoring all norms of international treaties and
agreements. It is too easy to brush aside the
events that are unfolding, events which have in the
past involved most countries of the world into
endless conflicts and horrific wars.

Substantial arsenal of nuclear weapons, including the
"delivery systems," were stationed in the Ukrainian
territory when the Soviet Union collapsed, and were
under the control of the newly emerged Ukraine.
The "western powers" were anxious to avoid proliferation
of nuclear weapons and wanted to destroy them.
As Russia was regarded as a reliable, big power, it
was put to the Ukrainians that they should surrender their
nuclear weapons to Russia to deal with the destruction.

This was regarded as a reduction of nuclear danger
to all "western powers." It did nothing to reduce the
danger to Ukraine. Ukraine was guaranteed its security
in return for their willingness to surrender peacefully their
arsenal. Yes, Ukraine did hand over their nuclear arsenal
to Russia.

Have you seen the graphic TV re-broadcast of a TV program
in Moscow that reminded in threatening tone that Russia
"was the only power able to destroy New York and other
American cities, leaving behind only radioactive ahes?"

It is worth noting that it was shown at the same time as the
invasion of Crimea by the Russian troops.

Hi Foxy,

Yes, that TV braggart was hardly typifying a nation being harassed or put upon by Ukrainians fascists.

As a good Leftie, I recall reading about Russia's war with Finland [when I read the book, I was on Russia's side, of course], in which Stalin demanded that territory in Karelia be handed over. The Finns refused, Russia invaded, Finland appealed for international assistance, got none except from Nazi Germany. Russia launched the largest bombing campaign known at that time. The great Finn composer Sibelius, 75 at the time, used to fire off his old 0.22 at Russian planes. At least, he had both courage and integrity.

For all that, Alexander Wirth, in his 'Russia at War', points out that citizens in the later-besieged city of Leningrad chose to walk on the south side of streets, knowing it would not be bombarded by the Finns anywhere near as heavily as the north side by the Nazis.

It must be horrible to be a third party caught in a war between evils: which side do you choose ? The lesser worst side ?

It was a similar dilemma for Stepan Bandera and General Vlasov, Ukrainian and Russian respectively, seeking some sort of liberation from Stalinist terror, and throwing in their lots with the Nazis. Bandera was jailed by them for three years - they had no more desire for his notion of an independent Ukraine than Stalin had, or Putin has, for that matter - and Vlasov similarly was confined by the Nazis until he agreed to form a pro-Nazi army of Russians. Of course, he was hanged along with other 'turncoat' generals in 1946.

With the 1930s politically-induced famine in the Ukraine in mind, many millions deliberately killed off, I don't know which way I would have gone if I had been Bandera. And after twenty years of Red Terror across the 'Left'-reconstituted Tsarist Empire, maybe I would have done just what Vlasov did, knowing certain death, either way, was the price. No, I wouldn't have had his courage.

It's a bit rich, though, for Putin to level a charge of Right-wing influence at Ukraine, when he has just hosted Le Pen from the extreme Right in France, or when the ultra-nationalist Russian Zhirinovsky can offer his full support without any demurral from Putin. Zhirinovsky, le Pen and Putin - my God, what a reactionary bunch.

One lesson might be learnt, however, from the EU's over-reliance on Russia for its energy: that, in future, every effort must always be put into diversifying dependence on suppliers of resources - diversified globalisation, diversified multilateralism, if you like.

In that sense, Putin has played his last card.

Dear Joe (Loudmouth),

I wouldn't trust Putin to have played his last card.

I remember the joke about "motivation," where an
Englishman, a French man, and a Russian are arguing
about which one of them could get a cat to eat
mustard.

The Englishman grabs the cat and sits
it on his lap, then proceeds to politely get it to
lick the mustard off his fingers while singing to it,
"Nice kitty..." The cat sneezes and won't have a bar
of it. Then the Frenchman tries sweet talking the cat -
again to no avail.

Finally the Russian takes the
mustard and wipes it on the cat's bum. The cat furiously
begins licking its bum (stings like hell). Then
the Russian turns to his two colleagues smiles and
says, "The right motivation always works!"

http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2014/04/26/moving-closer-war-paul-craig-roberts/ Dr Paul Craig Roberts makes some pungent points here but the West remains oblivious to the mess they've created.

For our banking oligarchs who control the West, nuclear war will be their escape from us and the GFC that is far from over.

Our elites have miles of underground cities, with seed banks and the capacity for growing food. There is even a nuke fallout shelter under Parliament House in Canberra. If our elites feel secure in their underground shelters, this makes a nuclear war all the more possible because they will survive.

Both the USA and Russia have enough nukes to destroy the planet at least 6 times over. Like the stock exchange, computers now determine panic selling and deployment of nuke weapons. Who will have the time to stop a nuclear exchange ? It will be all over in a couple of hours and the we all slowly starve to death in a nuclear winter.

Putin is not the kind of person who backs down and our psychopaths in the West will not have their dream of a New World Order be dashed by anyone.

Even for you, this is a bit of a stretch, Arjay.

>>Our elites have miles of underground cities, with seed banks and the capacity for growing food.<<

It would appear that your paranoia has finally reached its natural conclusion, in which an imaginary bunch of people, invisible and unreachable, has created their own parallel universe, from which you are excluded. In your mind, these people have everything - underground cities in which they stroll and play, rolling acres of rich (underground?) pastures providing food - no doubt their own vineyards, breweries and distilleries too. And free, of course. Free of the cares of the world - because after all, they own everything, so want for nothing.

So sad. It will be the voices next, I'm afraid.

And just a passing thought on this one:

>>There is even a nuke fallout shelter under Parliament House in Canberra. If our elites feel secure in their underground shelters, this makes a nuclear war all the more possible because they will survive.<<

Ok, let's run with that for a moment. When you say "survive", what exactly do you mean? Will they continue to live underground, do you think? Who built this world of underground wonder, complete with food-growing capability and easy living all while you weren't looking? Such an enterprise would hardly have gone unnoticed, surely?

Perhaps it was the same guys who planted the nanothermite bombs in the WTC...?

So all the trillions of dollars of accumulated personal, corporate and government debt, you keep complaining about, which is owed to them gets written off? The circumstances were very different when Solon pulled that one off.

Meanwhile, I'll treat the logic of our world oligarch banking elites creating nuclear war being as sensible as their desiring a global nuclear winter in order to lengthen the skiing season.

WM Trevor the trillions of $ of debt created by our Central Bankers comes with the click of a computer mouse. They are depreciating our currencies via inflation and we are all paying for our own economic demise to these thieving bankers.

New money for inflation + growth should not be created as debt. Only elected Govts should have that power.

One thing I've noticed about all the Pilger critics over the years is they always seem to challenge his opinion but never challenge his facts.

It's as though what he says is not demonstrably wrong but some simply refuse to accept it as true.

They may not be able to disprove what he claims but demand their right not to believe it. More denialism at work?

"One thing I've noticed about all the Pilger critics over the years is they always seem to challenge his opinion but never challenge his facts."

Perhaps one should start with:

"In fact, the Americans were so far ahead in the production of ICBMs, the Russians never approached them. The cold war was based largely on this lie."

In fact the cold war started in 1947, well before the “missile gap” was invented. The gap was first proposed by the Gaither Committee in 1957.

“In 1964, the year Strangelove was made, "the missile gap" was the false flag."

The Kennedy administration had by mid 1961 acknowledged that the gap did not exist as proposed, but instead the US was far ahead of the USSR in ICBMs.

“In order to build more and bigger nuclear weapons and pursue an undeclared policy of domination, President John Kennedy approved the CIA's propaganda that the Soviet Union was well ahead of the US in the production of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles.”

As the “missile gap” reports and documents were published in 1957 to 1959, before Kennedy became president, he would have been unable to do this. The CIA estimate at the time for ICBMs was indeed inflated. The CIA suggested there were about 12, when in reality there were only about 4.

“Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the US has ringed Russia with military bases, nuclear warplanes and missiles as part of its "Nato Enlargement Project".”

Russia is not ringed with US military bases. There are no US military bases in most of the countries that border Russia. Most of the countries that border Russia are also not members of NATO. Nations request to become part of NATO, they are not forced into it.

Arjay,

Thanks for your entertaining contributions.

I wonder what international bankers do with all those trillions they steal ? Invest it, perhaps, or lend it back out. Or perhaps, like Scrooge McDuck, keep it all in a back-room, to roll around in ?

International bankers wanting inflation ? Well, there goes the value of their ill-gotten trillions, and any real value of their lendings.

Ditto, wanting nuclear war ? There goes their customer base, not to mention that degree of uncertainty which makes any reliance on money that much more risky.

If I were an international banker (and let's not mention what persuasion you think they all are), I would go for stability, certainty, low inflation and more-of-the-same.

Stop watching disaster movies, Arjay :)

Classic, Arjay.

>>How big a shelter would central bankers build with unlimited money? Answer; big enough to see out a nuclear winter.<<

So, have they started on the project yet? Where is it, do you think? Have they started growing the crops/herding the cattle etc. that they will need in order to keep having the lunch to which they have become accustomed?...

http://www.thefatduck.co.uk/The-Menus/Tasting-Menu/

Or are they prepared to do it tough, with no servants, no drinks on the terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples, no Gulfstream to take them to the next meeting of the secret bankers cabal - in fact, no more secret bankers cabal meetings to go to?

Why, in the name of all that passes for sanity in this world, would they risk all that (you claim) they have, in exchange for a post-apocalyptic nuclear winter?

Incidentally, just one further thought.

What would they use for money, where will they keep it and who will they spend it with?

Get a grip, Arjay, and start thinking these things through, just a little.

Building 7 at the WTC collapsed on 11 September 2001 after suffering structural damage from debris striking it from the collapse of the North Tower creating internal fires that weakened the supporting collumns.

Although what this has to do with the Ukraine, I am at a loss to understand.

UOG,

Stick a toothpick under the Caps Lock, it works for me.

And now, the Commonwealth Bank pays an annual tax of several billions. Not a bad deal to thank Keating for.
