Paul you and I will have very different views than most here on aid
Aid was first given to help people live better lives even stay alive
But huge schemes like the Colombo plan existed to lift whole nations out of poverty
Unfortunately it then became based on politics, friend v enemies
Too nothing more than payment to true despotes, for support
We must one day restart aid, purpose humanity not politics
See the needy not the greedy get it
More much more, than ever before
In doing that we will build a better world and decrease the need for mass migration/refugees flows
A Billion dollars in food would right now, save some south American states from a coming tragedy

Dear Hasbeen,

How's it going old cock? Good?

So you don't have much time for Pete and World Vision. So what charity do you think does a far better job then?

Foreign aid has always been a contentious issue.
There are those who will argue that we
should look after our own first. Then there are
those who will say that foreign aid gives us
good relations with our neighbours and gigantic
leverages which makes policies like PNG solution
possible. Others may point out that funding
secular in Indonesia prevents the spread of
fundamentalist Islam. Others may claim that it's
the "nice" thing to do.

My opinion is that foreign aid should be
untouchable. Is shouldn't be about strategy or
being nice.

It's about sharing our wealth. We have an
incredibly high standard of living compared to
our geographic neighbours and the idea that
we can't afford to spend a fraction of our
wealth in helping others is nonsense.

Foreign aid is the logical outcome of our
rich (proesperous) and democratic culture.
Decisions to cut that aid is
one that brings into question the humanism that
underpins that culture.

cont'd ...

Excuse my typos in my previous post. Also
my comments on "secular" I meant in reference
to schools. Funding secular schools may
in Indonesia may prevent the spread of
fundamentalist Islam.

Dear runner,

You said;

“actually Steelie it is Tim Costello not Peter.”

However Hasbeen rather distinctly said;

“Nothing he ever said was anything but a waste of CO2 laced hot air.”

As Pete certainly fits that description to a tee and his brother most certainly does not then any reasonable person would assume he was referring to dear old Pete.
