Now your talking Individual. No more unemployment benefits, but a job in a land army, out in the bush for dole money.

A nice camp far far away, one month on one month off, all keep supplied. Hell it might even suit many, at least the ones not actually working a couple of days undeclared a week. We might get something back for our sit down money.

Just don't ask the defence force to run it, give it to some mean old buggers mike me.

A little story you might like ttbn.

My son was engineer on a navy ship. He complained bitterly about the quality of the stokers, [mechanics] he was getting, with at least half of them not safe to touch machinery, if you wanted it to run again.

That was the blokes, I could not repeat his description of the lady stokers coming out of training. He decided to give a demonstration of their uselessness.

They were overhauling one of the large diesel generators ships require, & had to send the cylinder heads off to be machined. There were 8 cylinder heads, & as each one came off he detailed 2 stokers to each head to take them down to the wharf to be transported to the machine shop. This is a laborious business requiring traversing about 75 metres of corridors plus ascending 4 decks before descending to the wharf. It took a couple of hours to get each down to the wharf.

Not so the ladies. The heads were heavier than 2 ladies combined were allowed to lift, or infact actually lift, & there is not enough room for more to fit to do the job. They had to use block & tackles & trolleys, at each water tight door, & along each companionway. It took them 3 days to get one out onto the wharf.

Luckily by then, some were finished, & arriving back. He detailed the ladies to bring one back to the engine.

In retrospect he decided this had been a great idea. Not only had it demonstrated the stupidity of sending a boy on a mans job, [in this case girls], it had kept them busy for 6 days, saving much unnecessary close supervision of them. He found it was quicker to do a job himself, than apply the very close supervision the ladies required to prevent dangerous mistakes.

Better still, they requested & were granted transfers.

Yes he's a misogynous pig, but the navy keep calling him back to do reserve time, because he can make their old ship go. Not many can.

Good story, Hasbeen. Do they allow the girls on the reserve list, or is there a once-bitten-twice-shy policy on the sisters?

We really should make the Millennials dilemma an election issue.
Ever since Rudd gave all the kids a laptop before they even got close to deserving one, ignorant academics such as Rudd have caused the Millennials to believe everything should be free. Working & paying taxes is something other people do.
