"THE state’s kangaroo harvesting industry is set for a jump-start with government announcing it will lift the cap on commercial processing licences.

Currently there are only 11 licences held by seven companies.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Minister for Primary Industries Niall Blair said the change would open the door for at least 18 companies that were waiting to enter the roo processing market."

Not before time and it can mean more jobs.

Perhaps, but the article refers to processing dead kangaroos. Hunters produce dead kangaroos, they don't process them. Those jobs will go to abattoir workers and tanners.

Jobs are jobs. And, with around 6% unemployment and possibly up to 20% among youth, we need as many as we can get, along with a halt to mass immigration.

I don't think the purpose of this decision is the employment stats. Thankfully it is about the management or culling of roo's, because like many other, and including, protected animals, they are beyond plague proportions. Although I strongly suggest, no demand that, before we start shooting the roo's, we start with the greens. Once we are rid of them, managing the flora and fauna of this country will get back into sync. Suddenly we find that our friends and loved ones will stop dying because of the roo plague. Then we can move on to sharks and camels and crocs and so on. Making this country a little safer to live in. We'll talk about the unsavory humans of our species another time. I for one am looking forward to it. I can't believe someone in govt actually came up with the right decision for a change.
