Yep Opinionated2 shows exactly why He was right and just to wipe out almost all mankind at the flood. You would think Opinionated2 would seek mercy rather than being a typical smartie who is arrogant enough to think He knows better than God. It is not the God of the bible he disbelieves but that he thinks his opinions are more righteous. You really are a joke.

Op2,

Which translation of the Bible are you using?

Op2,

Christ, you don't get it, do you ? Have you only just discovered - and are all indignant - that some of the stories in the Bible aren't true ? None of it is true. Get over it and move onto the more substantial foundations of how and why and what people believe. Fairy tales illustrate those more basic ideas. Nobody believes in being bushes or crows feeding blokes out in the desert, but each of those yarns illustrates some basic idea that the priests might have been trying to get across.

And of course, many of those bits and pieces were borrowed from other people' belief systems, and mostly garbled at that (when you have the courage to rip into the Koran, you'll notice that: yes, you'll have a great time with the Koran). And why do you think that 'Christians' have read their Bible from end to end, many times ? If they have one, of course. Of course they haven't. They may not know much more about it than you do, i.e. bugger-all.

And as for whether "You guys believe the Bible...lmao ... " what, just because someone disagrees with you ? No, we have a different and more sophisticated take on it, and are probably more atheist than you seem to be. Lyao at that.

Joe

Many people are of the opinion that the teachings
of the Bible are outdated, contradictory, and full of
scientific and historical errors. That the books of the
New Testament were written centuries after the events
they describe.

Be that as it may - however there are a large number of
religions, many of whose members are convinced that
theirs is the one true faith and all others are
misguided, superstitious, even wicked.

Whatever our religious beliefs may be, we usually learn
them from other people through socialisation into a
particular faith. The religious convictions that anyone
holds are therefore influenced by the historical and
social context in which that person happens to live.

Of course we're not the passive prisoners of our
upbringing but even people who decide to go from one
religion to another form of belief almost inevitably select
a belief from the unique range of options that their
particular culture happens to offer at a particular point
in its history.

Hi Opinionated2. A lot of reactions to your post. Here's one more though.

The way I figure it, believing in the bible is based on 2 premises to hold onto. 1) that God is real (or something to that line of thought). And 2) that the bible is written/diticated/ or inspired by God.

A third and forth one to add to that is that God can be trusted, and that He can protect His own words. So the words recorded and written can be trusted too.

If a person comes into their faith through reading the bible first and then finding God, they skip a few steps of first believing in God, then searching for Him through religous study and scriptures of one or more religions. On the other hand if a person finds God first then searches for His direction they might also find a strong trust in the bible.

It's not out of laziness and not thinking it through, it's more on if you can really trust God or not, and if the bible comes from Him. Out of this kind of reasoning, I would disagree that there are lies about God within the bible. Nor lies about history, miracles or fantastic events.

To Loudmouth.

[So get over the silly stories, move onto the more fundamental beliefs in every religion. Probably not even that many Christians believe the stories, they've got more sense.]

There are some Christians who do this. In small parts or in large parts, either disregard segments of the bible, or reinvent the verses to try to make them say something they really don't say. It is disheartening to find, but even with in the bible there are elements to strengthen our resolve in it.

"Man doesn't live by bread alone but by every word of God." "What is wisdom from God seems foolish to the world." Sorry if I muddied up the quotes, but the basis of a real basic belief can be shown. Believe in the words of the bible because of the trust you have in God.

Op2 is similar in views as the communist USSR who tried to eradicate religious belief during the revolution. I suggest he visit old soviet countries today and see they are more religious than ever.

Judaism and Christianity has tried to be eradicated for thousands of years and his unintelligent rant is not new. I'm on a Christian apologist site where leading atheists are frequently accepting Christianity. His railing against God is an open door of his mind to have sublimated truth enter. He has not got the answers to life just negative opposing thoughts.

I note his exerations of my statements indicate he does not read closely.
