The Minister for Small Business in the Queensland Parliament, Leeanne Enoch tries to put a small business out of business.

Enock objected to a legally displayed billboard by a Queensland firearm business, Gunworld, and started a petition to have the billboard removed.
The billboard is still there but the Minister's petition suddenly went off the net.
The counter petition to keep the billboard is still going.

"A Northern Michigan man who allegedly wandered outside a gas station covered in blood and waving around meat was arrested following a fight with deputies.

Deputies followed a blood trail to a nearby trailer home and knocked on the door. There, they encountered Purple, 62, who began screaming at them and fell off the front porch as he fought them in the front yard, WPBN reported.
Deputies asked Purple about the blood and the intoxicated man allegedly said it was Santa Claus. Authorities believe the blood came from a deer that was hit by a car in front of Purple’s trailer . The suspect is about 5ft 4inches Caucasian male red cap and red suit , black boots carrying 2 Parabellum-Pistole ( Luger) and probably the "car" is a sled driven in negligent manner carrying 1 female shooting at random ".

Update from Damien Jenkin, originator of the counter-petition,

< NOV 18, 2017 — Just like to thank everyone for signing the petition. I have forwarded it to Pauline Hanson and to Gun-World.

Just so you all know this is from Gun World,

"Thank you for your support and all you have done with the petition, we will defiantly now be keeping the billboards coming and will be placing them all around Brisbane and up to Toowoomba and the Sunshine coast. I have just booked a year deal with the sign company so keep your eyes on the billboards around town."

I do expect more from the Antis and if needed I will create another petition and another. We must keep the fight going. We will not be walked over by them anymore.
Regards
Damien Jenkins >

Gun World has also received nationwide free publicity thanks to the Minister.

Speaking of Aboriginal members of parliaments and government ministers, Victoria has appointed its first Aboriginal woman minister. So there are now Indigenous ministers in WA, SA, Victoria, the ACT, NT and Queensland, mostly women. What you might call, "Voice".

Issy, this is the umteeth pro gunnie thread you have started for the year. So boring I didn't bother reading your link, BTW did you post a link? I didn't read down that far. Do you have a thing about guns?

Was this billboard put up by the Australian chapter of the NRA, and financed by international arms dealers?

The joker who passed on his petition to Pauline Hanson, a waste of time, what is the lovely Pauline going to do with it? She is illiterate, so its useless.

With the festive season almost upon us, and thinking of what to get the kids for Christmas. What about starting a thread like;

"The AK47 (amunition included), Santa's Ideal Xmas Gift For The Kiddy Who's Got Everything"

It would treat the kids to some real live, I mean dead action. Beats those fake shoot em' up. kill, kill, kill, games, your mob have got the kids all playing now.

" THE Goulburn Workers Field & Game Clay Target Club will be hosting it’s biggest shoot of the year with special guest star Santa Claus himself arriving to pull the trigger . The shooters are always talking amongst themselves, discussing best methods on how to smash the targets, . All shoots at the Middle Arm Road venue are family orientated, they are welcome to walk around the course alongside shooters, "

Select from Rudolph or Dancer , Santa's elves or any of Santa's helpers you fancy. Every child wins a prize.

Because it just wouldn't be Christmas without a handgun in every stocking... and a tragic family accident to remind us of the true meaning of Christmas.

Gun World... proudly bringing the spirit of Christmas to a billboard near you.

Let us hope that this Damien Jenkins fellow receives a visit in the night from four ghosts and sees the error of his ways.

My, my, and not a word about the Minister for small businesses having a go at a small business.
Moreover, a small business that is not breaking the law but is in fact, very law abiding.

//My, my, and not a word about the Minister for small businesses having a go at a small business.//

Dude, did you read the billboard?

They're advertising guns... for Christmas. Look, it's all very well for small business to advertise, but this ad is beyond tasteless. I'm not Christian but I still love Christmas, and I think its absolutely disgusting that anybody would try and use a celebration that is about family and joy to hawk weapons. Don't these mongrels have any shame?

I remember a well publicised case in Sydney a few years back where somebody trying to sell cures for erectile dysfunction got in trouble because their billboards had the word 'SEX' on it large letters. It was deemed to be too much of a risk to impressionable young minds. But advertising guns for Christmas... apparently that is to be applauded.

Some people sure have some messed up priorities.

NNN, the best laugh I've had on here in ages! Except you got it wrong, Santa is not the shooter, he's the target.

Toni, the Billboard is not that tasteless, considering it right next to the heroin dealers ad, He's got a Family Xmas Special, it comes seasonally gift wrapped and all.

Issy, I hope the kids are a bit more imaginative this Xmas, and don't give me another bottle of after shave. Maybe they can wrap up a few stick of dynamite for me, which I can light up in the lounge room on Xmas morning. that should wake up the neighbourhood. What do you think?

Law-abiding people have rights . "Prime Minister Tony Abbott has defended comments made by Attorney-General George Brandis when he said " People have the right to be bigots"." Billboards have rights and can be used to seriously insult sections of population up to the limits of 18c. Smoking guns and cigarettes are legal health hazards.

I'm confused. Are we supposed to want a gun for Christmas, or a hot woman or a hot woman with a proclivity for fondling guns?

I'd go with the later since as we all know "Happiness is a warm gun".

Late at night in the outback town of Bethlehem , three dark men ride up to a cow-shed where drifters are holed-up . They carry metal canisters of aromatics and quietly move to the door and throw it open. Gunfire erupts as Mary yells " you'all clear off this is a clean-livin family and want none of your frankincense you Arabs".

Paul,

I don't think that it'll do much at all, I've often started a campfire with a stick, if you light it, it just burns.

The Minister was just trying to make a bit of political capital and got her fingers burned, bet that Anna told her quick to cancel her petition.
Wouldn't go down too well at Party HQ.
"Minister for Small Businesses Launches a Petition Against a Small Business".

Roll on the election.

Toni, the head gear on those three dude's is totally out of order. How dare they present a naked sausage roll at Xmas, where is the tomato sauce? Anyway what has a sausage roll got to do with Xmas? That should have been a fruit cake! Speaking of fruit cakes....

Okay Issy, you used a few sticks to light your camp fire, was it in the middle of your lounge room floor at Xmas?

This is what Xmas is all about;

Palestinians no doubt . And their polygamous wedding approaches , choosing some tasty delicacies before the dancing and gunshots with TNT celebrations. The girl with pistol needs a burqa unless she's at home with her Dad , Dad and Dad.

Dear Is Mise,

Guns are not toys. They are tools.
And the billboard is inappropriate, as well as being a
distraction for drivers at an intersection. A young
girl dressed as Santa holding a gun with the message
"Santa knows what you want for Christmas" would be
the quivalent of a man holding a gun pointed at his
crutch telling us that "Happiness is a warm gun".
Surely this is not something that the community needs
advertised. Small businesses need to be selective
in their messages and where they choose to advertise.
It could well work against their interests.

Here in Melbourne a new medical clinic opened up that
had an advertisement in big letters on a wall facing
traffic at a busy intersection that stated:

"We can fix your erectile disfunction. Come in and
Talk to our experts". I wonder how many males dared to
walk through those front doors?

The same goes for messages about guns. Billboards need
to be done in better taste and be a bit more clever.
And, not a turn off or it defeats the purpose and the
expense spent. I'm surprised the local council allowed
it. The Minister was right in protesting. It did not
serve the community well.

Foxy,

The Minister was in error, as Minister for small businesses she should have had her office contact Gun World and express her and the community concerns, not rush out and start a petition; it was plain old political grandstanding and it's done Gun World a world of good.

Got anything to say against Christmas adds for computer games where killing is the main theme and most of that killing with fully automatic guns? Oh! the fun of Christmas.

I will agree that the billboard could be distracting to motorists but this is true of all billboards, and as billboards are designed to attract attention and each and every vehicle has a driver (at the moment) then billboards are designed to attract drivers and so distract them.

All roadside billboards should be banned.

Dear Is Mise,

I agree that the Minister should have contacted Gun
World. I had assumed that she had.

As for billboards in general -
I like what Ogden Nash had to say:

"I think that I shall never see a billboard
lovely as a tree.
Perhaps, unless the billboards fall,
I'll never see a tree at all".

Now trees are lovely:
"A radio station in Tucson has taken down a billboard for the Rush Limbaugh show that called Limbaugh a "straight shooter" and was riddled with images of bullet holes.

Clear Channel, the radio giant that owns KNST (790 AM), said the billboard had been up for weeks, but was now inappropriate in the wake of the Tucson shootings...

Nick,

I'm one of those poor people with a fifties education who have to read everything, everything, that they see in print, anywhere, even bus ads. Here in Adelaide, along North Terrace, there are innumerable plaques for many famous South Australians, every few feet or so, and it takes me an hour to walk the quarter of a mile. Plus I get a rick in my neck from having to twist and read. But it's always worth it, I learn so much each time. Maybe if other states had famous people, they could try the same.

Thankfully, I don't have to twist my neck to read your posts. And I have to say I enjoyed your last one: keep it up !

Joe

Over the past century about 30% of murders across Oz were by guns , that is around 100 a year in recent decades. South Aust has about 700 famous people in your 1/4 mile . A victim pathway of memorial plates would be interesting.
