The Commonwealth Of Australia Constitution Act - Sect 81 Consolidated Revenue Fund says;

All revenues or moneys raised or received by the Executive Government of the Commonwealth shall form one Consolidated Revenue Fund, to be appropriated for the purposes of the Commonwealth in the manner and subject to the charges and liabilities imposed by this Constitution.

The Commonwealth Government exisits to serve 'we the people' of Australia so why are we never told exactly how much money is in this Consolidated Revenue fund at any time?

I suggest that we all write to our servant representatives and ask them to make suitable enquiries and report back to us on exactly how much revenue is in the Consoldiated Revenue Account 30 days before the date they received our request.

Lets all accept that this figure will vary on a day to day basis however, no goverment in the last 30 years has ever revealed how much was in the Consoldiated Revenue Account on, for example, the first day of every month. Why not?

I've heard the real figure is in the trillions of dollars.

We taxpayers are held to account by the govt by making aure we pay our tax to the nearest cent so surely what is good for the gander is also good for the goose.

Lets all write and ask our federal prepresentatives to find out how much of our money is in the Consoldiated Revenue Account 30 days before receipt of our letter.

The Commonwealth Government (IS SUPPOSED) to exist to serve 'we the people' of Australia. - point taken, but it seems they are deciving us by not revealing how much money is in the consolidated revenue fund.

We need to ask, why are they doing this, do they think the tax stream will stop someday? If they are 'saving up' for something then who or what are they saving up for? Why dont they reveal this reason to the Australian people?

Why does the media not talk about this?

More importantly, why do they then lie to us and say their is no money in the kitty for this or that because thats what it is, a lie.

Its not their money people, its ours.

Lets hold them accountable and ask them and see what they say.

Australia holds papers saying its total foreign debt is $1.9 million million. We have the opportunity to pay every last cent owing to the communist dictatorship and we're in the red .

Probably because it doesn't matter. Australia is a soveriegn currency issuer so can never run out of money. And nor can our dollar collapse, as we don't try to keep it above market value.

And while the government should be sccountable to the people, that doesn't mean government money is ours. When we psy taxes, the money ceases to be ours. Nor are we liable for the government's debts.

"House of Representatives" suggests maybe the MP handle our money. Mr Treasurer thinks we have some link with his debt and banks are sure of it after his budget . Greeks know it .

Yuyutsu,

You are right. Politicians exist to serve themselves. But, I think that Ref meant that they are SUPPOSED to be serving us. Sadly, the time is well and truly gone when politicians went into the 'game' to serve country or people. What better way for third rate people to get paid more than they are worth, more than they could ever get from a real job, than to go into politics. You need absolutely no qualifications – just a big fat ego and like-minded scungy mates to get yourself pre-selected for an established party which decides who goes into parliament. It's certainly out of the hands of us plebs.

And there goes Aidan again, rambling about 'sovereign currency' and the charms of living in debt. I suppose we should be grateful that at least none of our idiotic politicians have come up with such absolute rubbish
