HI everyone, im a Forgotten Australian, 12X's placed in Qld and Vic, mum struggled and dad could never win custody of us three boys. Im the eldest...wounded, trying to heal..

I would like to acknowledge the other forgotten, stolen and robbed australians in this group... many of you suffered much more than I did, your testimony affects me immensely, greatly, Ive cried for you...

like many of you i thought i came out ok but i didnt... i thought the redress would be a breeze, i was a vet after all...
the first time I opened the forde submission it blew me through a double brick wall ... I had opened the submission on the page that cites my brothers bashing by a house parent... i had just had my first serious flashback... since then it has been a warzone

i only discoveded my tag two days ago... i didnt know what i was untill then.....Im really behind on everything. Paul, my baby brother, was killed in state care. Its taken Vic 7 years to bury him and I took a little while to recover....

I am really here asking for help .. i need forum but i cant find any. I understand the special nature of the subject and I understand people's reluctance to speak and the delicacy of the subject but pretty soon, a lot of us, me maybe, wont be able too...we will be instead be having happy lives having forgotten everything like the redress requires...hmmmm

This is the only place i have found with any forum... does anyone know of more?

kind regards
robert

There are a number of forums that invite comment from Forgotten Australians (a term I don't like because it suggests we re still forgotten - how about 'survivors of institutional care'?).

Some that I know of are:

Origins (Adoption focus but also supports discussion among Forgotten Australians)
http://forums.delphiforums.com/originsharp/start

Opinions Paid (a forum for Forgotten Australians and others)
http://www.opinionspaid.com/op/forums/t/4712.aspx

Historical Abuse Network, Queensland (a support service for Queensland’s Forgotten Australians)
http://www.han.merivale.org.au/group/phorum/list.php?&phorum=

Wings for Survivors (a forum for Forgotten Australians)
http://www.wingsforsurvivors.com/?t=anon

Care Leavers of Australia Network (CLAN) A national lobby and support group with newsletters, web site, individual support and meetings.
http://www.clan.org.au/pages/index.php

Alliance for Forgotten Australians (a national lobby and information group but does not provide services to individuals)
http://www.forgottenaustralians.org.au/

Good luck! I hope you can get the support you want.

robert,
There have been a number of posters here on OLO that are 'Forgotten Australian' Click on huffnpuff and Frank Gol in the posters list and you will find entensive postings. There are others too, but I can't recall at the moment.

They are part of an organization that could be a big help to you in overcoming personal problems. In any case it it good to talk to someone that knows your situation.

A number of posters here, including myself, have made representations to the governments and politicians highlighting the need for a recognition and apology for you blokes and girls, but little response I'm afraid.

I wish you all the very best and hope you will keep us informed of your progress

Dear robertbruce,

You need to go into the website of
the Alliance for Forgotten Australians:

http://www.forgottenaustralians.org.au/

Their contact details are listed there.
They should be able to at least point you
in the right direction for further contacts
and help.

My heart goes out to you.

Good Luck.

The Alliance for Forgotten Australians doesn't provide support of that kind for individuals. It's a talkfest.

Tell robert to try CLAN which is a national hands-on support group. Or HAN in Queensland. http://www.clan.org.au/pages/index.php
