A nuclear challenge to the world : Comments

President Barack Obama has spoken of the need for 'new strategies' to reach the goal of a world without nuclear weapons.

No-one is ever FOR nuclear weapons but FOR mutual deterrence. A universal Treaty is a noble goal but I am not sure in the present day if it is an achievable or realistic one. I used to think so when it looked like the Cold War had largely diffused.

I don't think global negotiations or Treaties hold much interest for Iran, Israel or North Korea.

Do we really believe that the US would not hang on to an arsenal of nuclear weapons in the present climate?

While the world's people continue to fight over the share of the economic pie, energy resources, religion and power - I don't see a Treaty in our distant future.
