No longer a solid ally for the US, Europe is split on dealing with resurgent Russia.

Maybe the best way for America to handle the virtual resergence of a Soviet Russia combined with the growing might of China, could be to show a bit more humility rather than the use of the old wornout gunboat diplomacy, now only changed to long-range missile'ry.

It may even have the beneficial effect of little Israel pulling in her fangs, helping Iran gain the respect she should still have as Ron Suskind expresses, as the former proud and illustrious Persia.

If ever World War 3 breaks out I very much doubt Russia and America will take sides against each other. They may have face offs and a lot of bluster between them over different things like Georgia but things will be different if all out war breaks out.

They will then unite because the whole of Europe will be threatened and the Russians are after all European when it comes to bloodline.

That's not to say that European countries havent gone to War with each other and would again but not in a situation where European civilization is threatened with annihalation by overwhelming forces of other bloodlines.

Ultimate survival will be the driving force

To assess the real Russian threat, it might be worthwhile looking at world military spending budgets 2008:

US - $711 billion (48%)
Europe - $289 billion (20%)
China - $122 billion (8%)
Russia - $70 billion (5%)

(Source: International Institute of Military Studies)

Australia - (approx.) $20 billion (2%) (Source: PoliticalAffairs.net)

In other words, the military spending of the two main NATO players combined - i.e. the US and Europe - equals $1 trillion dollars, or almost 70% of world military spending, compared to Russia's budget of $70 billion or 5% of world military spending (just over 3 times that of Australia's).

No wonder Russia laughs at suggestions of another Cold War. Our great Western leaders and media may be stupid enough to take the Russian 'threat' seriously, but Russia certainly isn't.

And if most Westerners were given accurate information instead of the hysterical empty rhetoric of essays such as these, neither would we.
