The process of moving SBS television from a multicultural broadcaster to a broadcaster for the educated middle classes has gained pace.

It would be great to see the various ethnic communities get behind this astute condemnation of what has happened to SBS. Well done, Peter.
Change by stealth is the order of the day. This is how it's done. Pare back the intelligent comments. Frustrate the thoughtful people and watch them depart. Bring in commercial media "personalities". Keep pumping out propaganda about how we are serving the community, putting marvellous documentaries out and so on. And look what we are doing for Aborigines! Aren't we noble!
Meanwhile, bring in some commercials. Just a few- so it's barely worth commenting on. Then increase them. Have more and more ad breaks. Put on whatever cheap programs we can find. Plunge the network in a wholesale commercial dive.
This should become an election issue. A free media is part of our essential freedom to be informed. Let's keep fighting this one!

Tell SBS to behave itself or it will lose public funding.

If it doesn't, grant it a commercial licence and use the funds saved by setting up an SBS Mk 2 with Mary Kostakidis as its chief consultant.
