The success of JR Horta in the Presidential round was not achieved as a result of his popularity considering the highest first round poll was for Lu Olo.

The Xanana Gusmao /Horta alliance enjoys current favouritism primarily because of their acceptance by foreign powers,USA, Australia and Indonesia and the assistance they received from an anti-Fretilin media that continues to demonise them

Fretilin's economic policies are not supported by the elites in ET who are opposed to Fretilin's debt free stance and the opportunities that could emerge for the entreprenuerial elements who seek unbridled foreign investment that could plunge East Timor into unrepayable debt and loss of economic independence.

Fretilin is the only Party to have published a National policy and it is to be hoped that the real patriots in East Timor will see through the opportunism of Horta and Gusmao when they form their coalitions following the coming polls.

There is no doubt in my mind that the secretive architects of the crisis that led to the destabilisation of the elected Alkatiri Government set out to destroy Fretilin was aided and abetted by both Xanana Gusmao and Jose Ramos Horta.

Their performance in the coming years will expose them as they continue to undermine the Justice System by granting amnesties to the perpetrators of murder and the rule of law by their continued protection of Reinado and Rai Los whilst demanding prosecution of Rogerio Lobato whose 'crime' was to arm people to support the insufficiently armed Police who were under imminent attack by the army deserters.
