Was India a unified country under British rule? Look at an administrative map of India pre-1947 and you will see a patchwork of areas under a variety of control. The sheer pasivity of the Indian population under the British, Gandhi and others notwithstanding, allowed the British to play "The Great Game" in Central Asia and on the Burmese borders. These fractures are now becoming apparent in India,Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Mr. Sabhlok presents an unduly pessimistic, and highly inaccurate, view of India. He labels "incompetent" those Indian politicians facing the awesome responsibility of managing & governing a democracy of 1.1 billion people, a feat never before attempted in human history. At least, not to my knowledge. The results are there for everyone to see - an average growth rate of 6.5% over a 25 year period and with a Gini index (a World Bank measure of income inequality - the lower the better) lower than that of China or the U.S.
