Well, that's a nice piece of techno-utopian claptrap, but it flies in the face of the evidence. Current trends are (for example from Nielsen Soundscan - http://www.webpronews.com/news/ebusinessnews/wpn-45-20050712LegitSongSalesTripleAmongUSUsers.html) that Peer-to-peer fileswapping (the illegal kind, anyway) is on the way down and legit pay-per download services are on the up. Most recently, iTunes came third in the number of households using the software to obtain music (behind two P2P services), but was the only one of the top three to record any significant growth. In fact, three "legit" services appeared in the top ten for the first time ever.

Not everyone does it anyway - what nonsense. According to Pew (http://www.pewinternet.org/PPF/r/153/report_display.asp), only 27% of American Internet users "say they download either music or video files and about half of them have found ways outside of traditional peer-to-peer networks or paid online services to swap their files". In fact, "19% of current music and video downloaders ... say they have downloaded files from someone else's iPod or MP3 player" - the original peer-to-peer network.

As for kiosks in retail stores, that's like digital projectors in movie cinemas. What's the economic value for the store in providing expensive "banks of computer servers" that provide a limited (by time and capacity) service that most home PCs can provide with a greater (almost infinite?) choice and 24/7 access?
