Therefore, stone the flamin' crows, cobbers; be proud of your natural, traditional accent and intonation. Stick with it.

All the above indicates the future will hold, that the standard Australian accent will be tainted with an Asian accentuated bias as the norm.

I thought we had got over this nonsense. Apparently not.

For years I have railed against the Australian female Country and Western singers who insist on emulating their American cousins when they are singing Australian songs. To my ear and many others, nothing sounds worse.

The author equates Yankee with American. There was a Civil War between the United States of America whose soldiers were called Yankees by the traitorous South. To call an American from the southern states a Yankee is to deny that past. What is called a Yankee accent which incorporates the speech patterns of the southern or western United States would not be called Yankee by Yankees. I am a dual citizen of Australia and the United States. I consider Yankees to be the residents of the six New England states - Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Yankee speech patterns are the speech patterns of those states. Speech patterns from other parts of the United States are American speech patterns but not Yankee - at least not to an American.

Davidf, your point is well taken. The New Englanders are much easier to listen to than some of the accents from south of the Mason-Dixon line. The term most Aussies would use when referring to American citizens is actually Yanks not Yankees, a subtle difference.

VK3AUU,
I know what you mean. I used to turn the radio/TV off whenever Reg Lindsay came. Years later i felt compelled to to the same when the whimsical/whining KC Chambers was on. Terrible they force such un-talented peoples' voices onto the ears of listeners.

And this is why we should all listen to TISM, the most Aussie of all the Aussie bands.

For a sobering change this is probably as australian as a song & story can get.
I don't suppose it gets played too often at city venues.

When I lived in the USA I found the nasal twang of country (or hill-billy) singers unpleasant. I am disappointed to find Australians imitating it. Maybe Australia will come up with their own Donald Trump. If you wanted a shonky real estate dealer like Donald Trump you could have made Christopher Skase PM. There are better things in the USA to emulate. Unfortunately there are worse things, too, and they seem more attractive.

david f,
I just spoke with a bloke who was good mates with Skase & he told me that Skase was manipulated by people & by the perverted tax system's requirements.

Oh! how I agree.
Oi Oi Oi was never Australian and I wince every time I hear it.

We say we are a new exciting young country, full of new ideas but copying old slogans carries us backward to the colonial days.
Sadly the young do not know our history so they embrace this imported rubbish with open arms.
Thanks for raising the issue.
