By Justin Campbell, published 10/4/2018

It is inevitable that when we discuss issues of great consequence someone will be offended. In recent years we learned that there is no limit to what some will take offence to.

Yes Diver and a good call. Given the most recent revelations. Only nuclear powered economies, will be able to say no to the expansionist plans of China. XXX Alan B.

//One ton of bananas being more radioactive than a ton of thorium, or any amount of similar, up or down, gram for gram, volumes.//

Not a frigging chance, you lunatic. Even though there'd be a lot more atoms in the ton of bananas because of thorium's high atomic weight, it still wouldn't be as radioactive as the ton of thorium. That's because nearly all of the ton of bananas is composed of non-radioactive isotopes, whereas all of the thorium is radioactive.

If you were to compare on a mole for mole basis, which is a much more meaningful comparison, the thorium will definitely be even more radioactive compared to the bananas.

Well not that talk about Thorium has anything to do with the topic but anyway-

Tony Lavis: I would be very surprised if Alan B(ullsh!t) knows what a mole or Avogadro's constant is.

I'm sure he knows what a mole is - and that he thinks they're small subterranean mammals.

"In a shameful display of moral cowardice, we’ve shirked our duty to offend."

A duty to offend in the defense of that which is true does not become a right to be offensive, just because of your prejudices. Many people who complain about "political correctness" do so because they wish to continue to display their bigoted behaviour, rather than having a grown-up conversation about the issue.

That is not to say that "political correctness" is not pushed too far in some instances, but demanding it all be rolled back is not a useful approach.
