The US has to accept North Korea as a nuclear power : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 11/9/2017

Short of a massive military attack on its nuclear facilities, which is unthinkable, no diplomatic efforts or incentives will compel Pyongyang to give up its nuclear arsenal.

Dear Dan,

I just can't believe somebody could write this, let alone think this way! Wow!

Why, Chamberlain did so long ago.

No it doesn't! And anyone who thinks President Trump is just a (controlled, must do) puppet on a republican string, is hugely missguided!

The North Korean problem as a stalking horse for an increasingly belligerent expansionist China, must be curtailed!

Even if the only way is by the (has to) explosion of a precisely placed tactical nuclear weapon, in Korean leader, yung dung tongue's bedroom, while he sleeps therein, dreaming of world domination!?

Something neither china nor Russia, could continence as possible?

In which case, their interminable sabre rattling/military expansion/sovereign state annexation could be severely curtailed or wound back? Least they share that fate?

The only counter for a madman with his finger on the button is a madder madman with a seriously bigger finger on a much much larger button!

And why not? After all we're destroying the planet and our ultimate survival with the death of a thousand cuts, via fossil fuel and climate change!

A nuclear war of guaranteed mutual destruction, would merely accelerate that almost guaranteed eventuality?

Who would argue against that end? The nothing left to lose, homeless or permanently disfranchised? The bled white (captive market) until they die? I think not!

".1. It is time for the US to accept the reality that North Korea is a nuclear power.

2.Instead, the US must now prevent North Korea from.. miniaturized nuclear warhead on an ICBM ."

Not that I believe he is, but if Alon Ben Meir was on the take from North Korea I could not see how this article would be any different from how it is.

North Korea settled in communes or "kib-uts" in South Korea to grow olives in the land promised by Karl Marx centuries ago. After bombing the stone-throwing , ragged mobs from the Western Banks ,it built nukes of the dear leader Einst-un who was attacked by Allah Hitler for having Jewish science.

I see that there is a proposal in the UN to ban all oil imports to Nth Korea.
That is the one thing that would collapse Nth Korea without a shot
being fired. However I think China will veto it.
There is an alternative, drones that fire explosives into the Nth
Korean tank farm. That would collapse that country in a week or two.
It could be completely deniable "What me !"

Another possibility that must be being examined would be an attack
like those that have taken out numerous ISIS critical personal.

With proper preparation it could be so deniable that no one could tell if it was China or the US.

The United States and its ally or allies are deterred now. If nothing is done to change it now, they will have to remain deterred in the future, no matter what North Korea will do in the future.

Alon Ben-Meir appears to be asleep at the wheel. Where was he during the past few decades where the US and US negotiated with NK, giving them oil and removing US nukes from SK soil. NK took the money oil and light water reactor and promised not to develop its own nukes, all the while doing exactly that.

Not only should the US extend the sanctions, but move some of its short range nuke missiles into SK and set about installing a missile shield that can shoot down NK's ICBMs before they leave the atmosphere and deploy countermeasures. This will surely piss off China as it will degrade their deterrence and hopefully, do more to motivate them to take real action against NK.

NK's military while numerically strong is poorly trained and equipped and even in a confrontation with SK alone would be defeated in weeks. NK has always relied on deterrence based on a large artillery force to inflict mass casualties on SK.

What NK needs to be made to realise is that there is no scenario in which it uses a nuke that would result in its survival. A heavy blockade of sanctions will make it realise the cost of maintaining a deterrence that it can never use.

Korean culture is more Confucian or Chinese than Chinese culture is.

There are three Confucian societies in the world, China, Vietnam and Korea. I understand Vietnam fought China more than eighty times in the past two thousand years. Korean culture is more Confucian than Chinese culture is
"The Koreans in the early Yi dynasty(1392~1910) adopted Confucianism with such enthusiasm that their value system and social practices were restructured along Chinese lines more fully than ever before. Since Korea was a relatively small country, and thus a more manageable and homogeneous unit than the sprawling Chinese Empire, it may have become more uniformly and fully permeated by Confucian ideas than China was itself. In fact Korea became in many ways an almost model Confucian society...The Koreans also developed a very literal but sincere devotion to Confucian principles and an almost fanatical adherence to Confucian rituals. Another result of this emphasis on Confucian scholarship may have been a narrowing of the range of intellectual interests and a growing dogmatism of thought...the Chu Hsi school of Neo-Confucianism became established as the only acceptable interpretation...Chu Hsi's doctorines became in time even more narrowly restrictive in Korea than they were in China (Edwin O. Reischauer, Chapter 12. Yi Dynasty Korea: A Model Confucian Society, East Asia: Tradition and Transformation, co-authored by J. K. Fairbank and A. M. Craig, Houghton Mufflin & Tuttle)."

Confucius has given Korea the great person born of heaven , supreme leader from the Kim dynasty and commander of the state body.
In September 2015, the South Korean government commented that Kim appeared to have gained 30 kg in body fat over the previous five years, reaching a total estimated body weight of 130 kg .

and in the comfort of our own homes we can joyfully pontificate as the who should do what and ignore the ramifications of any act by believing we are only thinking of the greater good....as long as no hardship touches us....ahhh the lucky country....only because everyone else is too busy with their situation to pay any attention to us

" However, Russia recognized the 1895 Korea-Japan agreement as an act against its interests in northeastern China and eventually brought France and Germany to its side. With the success of the three-country intervention (Russia, France, Germany), Russia emerged as another major power in East Asia, ."
The lucky British nearly owned Korea and it's lucky Australia didn't take over. Japan gets a double nuking , Guam 1 and Oz 1 each. France and Germany must wait for Kim's big one.

Japan had already known what had been inflicted on China. So it wanted to maintain its independence, but its efforts to do so was inseparably involved in international imeperialistic rivalry, particularly in the Russo-British one concerning China, which centered around the Korean Peninsula at that time. To prevent itself from being carved up like China, Japan had to wean Korea from the Chinese suzerainty and keep it free as an independent counry.
Most, if not all, Western observers predicted that Japan would suffer terrible defeat in the Sino (or Manchurian)-Japanese war of 1894~95. After being victorious, Russian, not Japanese, influence increased steadily, so Japan fought another war with Russia.
One big factor that made for Japan's victory was that Great Britain and the United States wanted to check Russian influence and sided Japan. Japan would have been saved from the way it modernised itself if it had geographically situated in where Norway or Switzeland was.

I would appreciate very much if anyone kindly reads my (Yoshimichi Moriayama's) comments dated Aug. 16 and 18 out of my five comments on Project Syndicate/Richard Haass/The End of Asia's Strategic Miracle?/August 16.

As for the Pacific War, please read my (Michi's) comment on Hamilton Fish/FDR, The Other Side of the Coin, Hardcover, 1976, amazon usa. He/She would know the story usually told is different from the truth.

As for the comfort women, please read my comment, American Humanism, on Chinese Comfort Women, amazon usa.
Some details by an expert are available both in Japanese and English at the following address:

Please don't blame Japan for the crime it did not commit.

What America can do immediately about Pyongyang and its goose-steppers:
Reverse and repudiate all Neo-Con ambition to enforce regime change on any nation, including North Korea.

What the whole civilised world can, through UN, do immediately about North Korea: Reduce to a stone age economy by TOTAL economic sanctions those countries whose material and technological support has made possible the modern military machine that the Pyongyang goose-steppers would have had no chance of achieving without it. That includes Nazi Ukraine and theocratic Pakistan. This would not confront the Peking thug regime and would stall the goose-steppers' military development dead in its tracks -- and cut off all regular maintenance without which it would rapidly decay to impotence.
