By Gary Johns, published 31/8/2017

Why does one of the richest countries in the world want international charity?

It should of course be mentioned that the IPA which is openly involved in partisan political campaigns is a registered "charity" so that all "donations" to its coffers get a tax deduction for the donors, whether they be individuals or large companies. Meaning of course that the ordinary long-suffering tax payer helps to fund the IPA's propaganda machine.
The IPA is probably Australia's most influential and powerful "charity". Its talking heads are regularly featured on the ABC, and its scribblers are oft times featured in all of our "news"-papers.

Gary, if (prostituting) political parties/begging charities, cannot accept foreign donations/electoral support?

How do you propose elections be funded, from the public purse/crowdfunding? Sell your soul to the devil? Sell the country to foreigners, for a sizable personal commission/post politics consultancy?

From where I sit any and all charity/welfare, ought be reserved for the needy, not the greedy or the fat cats now lining up/elbowing in, for a turn at an overflowing, taxpayer funded trough!

Political parties holding out the begging bowl tantamount to commercial players stealing donations from our charity bins!

Let's get real here, anybody giving large donations to (bought and paid for) political players? Expects something in return!

Just as you or I would if handing a couple of hundred dollars to a lady of the night, occupying a significantly more honest, up front profession! Moreover, I'd have more respect for the "Lady"! And the obvious (up front) pun wasn't intended.

Ban foreign political donations! No ifs buts or maybes! And ensure all donors are both known and accountable, and a financial donations register is open, transparent and up to the minute, not lagging some six months behind!

Perhaps any and all such donations could be handed to the electoral commission to redistribute with politically blind, equal handed, pro rata, equanimity?

Never mind too that the Australian "news"-paper and the rest of the Oz Murdoch propaganda machine is owned by a foreign citizen.

Think of all the behind the scenes lobbying that the dark lord does to promote his business interests and his toxic ideology. And of all the tax breaks that he gets too.
Do his Australian companies even pay any tax?
Perhaps they even get a refund every year!

And what about the reported 300 million dollars that the government gave to Murdoch - to promote nobody knows what. Apparently there has been hardly any or zero paper work associated with this generous gift, and therefore no accountability.

Should “ Are they right to be worried?” perhaps be 'have they ANY right to be worried or, indeed, have any right to exist'? All charities are increasingly on the nose for the little bit of money the causes they are supposed to be concerned about receive compared with the huge salaries their hierarchies pay themselves. A certain outfit bossed by a certain clergyman comes immediately to mind, but there are many others.

Above all, I have to say that is bordering on lunacy that IPA, Greenpeace, Get Up etc, are called, indeed registered as, charities! The ones who actually do something, no matter how little, for the needy are bad enough without blatantly political lobbies getting in on the act. The same applies to all politically activist NGO's.

Cut them all off, I say.
