The Blueprint target of 42% renewables destroys the opportunity to build baseload coal burning power stations independent of the choice of technologies.

It all sounds a bit dodgy to me, a 300Mw installation and Finkel plan
requires despatchable backup, size % yet to be defined, but 400Mwatt/hr
is matched to the PV capacity, but that is only at mid day in summer.
What is the cost of the PV installation, how does it compare with the
$ one billion battery cost ?
Does it destroy its efficiency ?
After an overcast day, how is the battery to be recharged ?
From the Grid ? No ! What if the next day is overcast ?
Just been looking for more info, all references seem to have different
values, 250Mwatt PV & 160Mwatt/hr battery with total cost $1.88 Billion.
Considering that photocells are only 25% of nameplate ie 62.5 Mwatt,
the battery will backup for two hours less battery losses.
It would be interesting to find out what the ERoEI of the whole system
would be.
If you take overcast days and the short winter days into account I
wonder what the overall yearly performance would be ?
