An Australian should be Australia’s head of state : Comments

By David Swanton, published 3/5/2017

Religion, or lack of it, is a personal decision for each individual. So why would Australians want their head of state to discuss her beliefs?

Are you referring to Mary, Queen of Scots, or Bloody Mary, queen of England.I guess you must mean Mary, Queen of scots, as she was the one Elizabeth executed, because of her plotting to take the English throne and the assasination attempts on Elizabeth.
Bloody Mary, Elizabeth's sister, was famous for cutting off the heads of English citizensw ho would not convert to the Catholic faith.

"If a child aspires to be an executive of a new national high-tech company, captain a national sporting team, be an academic or pursue an interesting career, they should have the opportunity to do so."

Care to explain why?

"If an Australian child aspires to reach what many would consider to be the pinnacle, in a national sense, of being the country’s head of state, she or he is unable to do so."

Yes they can!

We can all become kings and queens; even the chiefs/rulers of the galaxy if we want. If we want to chop off people's heads at our pleasure then we can do that too: all you need is to lie in bed and close your eyes. This wonderful gift of dream allows us to fulfil all our missed desires, even the most unethical and perverted ones and then wake up content and free from those once and for all.

No need to torment others on the physical plane with your national aspirations, David - here is a way to resolve them peacefully, just close your eyes...

"Care to explain why?" Care to explain your question?
Among the reasons to retain monarchy that is the main reason against.
Fair go , equal rights and democracy are contradicted by inherited permanent birth rights to privilege. Centrelink can pay benefits to all such as royal heirs but seizing power like Tudors or having the right to your face on coins and closing roads with police escort and authorising the sack of Gough Whitlam is not on .

Dear Nick,

«"Care to explain why?" Care to explain your question?»

Well the author has made a grand statement as if everyone should be entitled for a chance to control other people's lives.

Take, say, the first on his list: "an executive of a new national high-tech company" - this mandates the formation of a new national high-tech company, so not only would that child be allowed to order the engineers of that company around, not only would he receive an executive salary, but it would all be taken out of my tax money as well.

One's freedom should be respected - absolute freedom, not rights in relation to other people, especially not rights to control and oppress others!

The monarchs do not control our life. They live far away in England and couldn't care less about what's happening in Australia, thus they do us no harm. However, should their position be filled by an Australian, who knows how much damage they can do!
