Where have all the visionaries gone? : Comments

Lord Mayor and Queensland Premier Campbell Newman will be seen in hindsight as visionary for his legacy of road tunnels across Brisbane.

Campbell Newman had the first coherent and sensible economic plan for Queensland since I wrote the economic development strategies for the Goss and Borbidge governments. His electoral defeat means that Queensland will stagger along without such a plan, the resources it would have freed up and the economic growth it would have fostered. So the first question for your proposals is, as always: where will the money come from? The second question is: can you clearly demonstrate that the risk-adjusted rate of return from these projects will meet the opportunity costs - the highest RA RoR from alternative uses of funds, which, given the state of government in Queensland, would usually be for tax cuts rather than government projects.

Labour/Green visionaries send us back 150 a couple of hundred years where their is no electricity. They are usually the 'visionaries' who get promoted into top uni jobs. Just ask South Australia.

runner, I think that it's a long time since university expansion passed the point of marginal utility falling to zero, I'd wind back government funding severely and leave the bulk of unis to live or die through private markets. The entrenched mindset in unis is very damaging to our society, the more its funded, the worse the negative impact.

Cooper, I didn't realize that Weatherill was either God or female. My faith in both is shattered.

That is the first thing you have ever said that made any sense. Take Abbott for example, he was very innovative with an uninterrupted roll out of lies. Which resulted in an election victory of mega proportions. Of course it was a hollow shel of a govt that followed.
I suppose you could say innovation works in different ways that can be expected. To this day Abbott is still innovating but is anyone listening. Now his own party want his resignation, so innovation does not always work especially when it is a one mans dream.
Abbott,s innovative ideas were based on Singapoor. Big business is going gangbusters. Common people have been dislodged in the name of progress. And now living alongside railway tracks and under bridges in the dry season.
So the great man has created the perfect two class society. The haves and the have nothing's. That is innovation on a political level.
Resignation now you perfect mongrel of society.

With all those coal deposits in Qld -- making for cheap, highly-reliable, non-climate-catastrophic electricity generation -- the science and economics illiterate Green-Left have done, and will continue to do, their utmost to bring Qld to a standstill.

It,s a shame that is the only source of innovative business that QLD processes. A whole in the ground full of filthy coal.

It will be a dodgy investment to go into coal these days. Coal and oil are in decline. Maybe QLD has not heard of that yet.

They still think of joe as their greatest humanitarian of all times. It,s a pity his humanitarian side never went past his own pockets. Then again he was a kiwi.

QLD has a history of self serving polititions, take Newman cambel he dug rabbit burrows all over Brisbane, someone should have given him a map of QLD.
