By Neil Francis, published 1/12/2016

The AMA claims to represent all Australian doctors, but in reality consulted less than a third of them.

Assisted dying: This has to be a joke!
There are over two thousand five hundred Australian a year telling you to stick that idea where it fits best, as they commit suicide unassisted.
As we all of us are aware, the medical fraternity is primarily an industry based on profit, and a huge one at that.
So the real question should be, is it in the best interests of Australians with a wish to die, (for whatever reason), to have their misery captured further for profit by greed?

Rights, rights, what rights? The right to be seen but not heard perhaps? Self appointed unrepresentative swill, is hardly a new phenomena! But "health consumerism" merely masquerading as best practise medicine probably is!?

That said,, Hitler thought he spoke for all Germans, Mussolini, for all Italians, Gadaffi for all libyans, Stalin for all Russians and well, you get the picture? Jawohl mein Herr?

The author deliberately sets out to mislead and deceive.

By opposing the killing of people by way of euthanasia, the AMA is acting professionally and ethically by protecting a person’s right to live.

On the other hand, should euthanasia be legalised, callous relatives and doctors could employ devious means to make the ‘assisted dying‘ look legal even though it was not in accord with the person’s wishes.

This occurs In countries where euthanasia is allowed, e.g. in cases where unsuspecting children are euthanised on parent request.

Raycom you clearly do not understand that any person wishing to conspire with a doctor to kill a patient has a far better opportunity to get away with it today than under a legal assisted dying law. Doctors act today without second opinions regarding diagnosis or prognosis, no psych examination, no cooling off period, no witnesses and no patient consent. And of course, no telling the Coroner.

If you do not trust two doctors and several others acting independently to safeguard a patients rights, how could you possible trust one?

The AMA is a powerful union and it has no intention of being democratic with its members or anybody else. It's opposition to voluntary euthanasia or assisted euthanasia on request is simply to protect its income. Doctors make fortunes by keeping dying people alive long after that have indicated they want to die. For the AMA it is pure self interest.

A big thank you to Neil Francis from all compassionate and sensible Australians for trying to make the AMA executive see the errors of their reasoning.
Law reform for euthanasia can only proceed if the doubters and naysayers would step back from their entrenched position and take the trouble to examine the detail of the script unbiased.
And, hopefully, let honesty prevail. Because the truth will come out in the end: that VOLUNTARY euthanasia is about HELPING a fellow human being to die the way he/ she wishes. Nothing more, nothing less
