But no matter. He was OUR mass murderer, so he carried out his crimes with complete impunity from the West. Indeed, we even supplied the transport for the hit squads to get from island to island, and the CIA obligingly gave them their own hit list. He became the darling of the Washington consensus, so much so, that for decades, OZ prime ministers and foreign ministers leap-frogged all over each other just to be seen next to him.
And by the way, there WAS democracy in Indonesia pre-Suharto. It was called 'Guided Democracy' and was much closer to true democracy than the farcical version that the West is saddled with.
