Dark Mesopotamian daze: the blowback of hubris in Iraq : Comments

By Greg Maybury, published 24/7/2014

As for president 'BOB', we may or may not think that he is handling things well in Iraq or Afghanistan, but who could/would/might have done it better/differently?

What a low level, toxic pile of garbage this author has produced, in such a limited space. His sole purpose appears to be to distract attention from the incompetence of Obama. Remember that Obama was elected because he was black, and despite his lack of any attribute to make him suitable for the position, and despite running against an opponent who was eminently suitable for the role of President, Mitt Romney.

Greg could have deigned to throw in a fact or two. This would have displaced some of his scurrilous opinion, and given a slight relief to the reader.

Since the article was discussing events that well pre-dated Obama it's wrong to make any such claims.
Personally I found it described the overall situation and it's potential implications quite well.
The USA is in the throes of a dying Empire and, barring the rise of a charismatic leader or movement, would appear to be doomed to eventual fragmentation and irrelevance.

Great darkly humorous truth telling stuff.
What else can you say about a raving-looney psychopath like Cheney.
Why not also check out the recent essay in remembrance of Jonathan Schell featured on Tomdispatch - and the entire Tomdispatch site too.

Leo. You forgot inane, un creative and child like thinking. This guy's potential documentaries will/would be the same tantrum in visual form. Ad hominim attacks are soooo childish and humourless. Simplistic thinking abounds in the left.

Look Gregory

If we can be on heterosexual first name terms* at this juncture.

I take offense at your depiction of former Vice President Richard Cheney as being "Deadeye". He is Mr Dick to those who coddle him.

Yes, it may be true that on February 11, 2006, Cheney hit Harry Whittington, Dick's 78-year-old Texas lawyer, with a well aimed blast of buckshot, upside his face.

It may also be true that Cheney's Secret Service detail then leapt on Mr Whittington and rapidly extracted a confession from him that - it was he, to Whit, who intentionally stuck his face between Cheney's gun barrel and Cheney's target - a crippled baby bear chained to Dick's ute.

In Cheney's defence he had drunk a slab of Bud making him dead-drunk not "Deadeye" as You so unfairly imply.

In the the subsequent court case it is true that Whittington was charged with the wanton theft of 50 pieces of Cheney's "double-ought" buckshot. Whittington pleaded guilty saying he was "Sorry" and that he would never steal neo-con bullets "agin". He was Texan after all.

The fact that on February 14, 2006, Whittington had a non-fatal heart attack and atrial fibrillation due to at least one lead-shot pellet lodged in or near his heart, was held as proof of Whittington's attempted theft.

Whittington subsequently invaded Poland as penance.

The following provides proof http://youtu.be/BMvPrG_2GW4 of this event in history http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Cheney#Hunting_incident .

* As Dick said "Never leave your mate's behind".

It seems to me that this essay belongs in the same genre of satirical writing/criticism as that of Jonathan Swift. Particularly in his description of the oafish Hooligans, of which Cheney is a (THE) prime now-time example.
Speaking of simplistic thinking and/or the ideological framing and dumbing down of political and cultural ideas, and even the very possibility of alternative options and forms of participatory culture and politics, including interpretations to/of the dreadful essentially totalitarian manufactured "consent" of the main-stream media, particularly that of Fox (faux) "news" and other right-wing propaganda machines, I find the truth-telling essays of Henry Giroux to be quite persuasive.
