Tasmania: a province of Victoria : Comments

By David Leyonhjelm, published 10/3/2014

Having once lived there, I know Tasmania is a pleasant place to live. But so is Greece. And if Tasmania was an independent country, it would be in more trouble than Greece.

So true EQ.

Oh & Taswegian, give us back our CO2 plant food. It is far too valuable as a fertiliser to waste on a bunch of useless trees.

Sure, eliminate Bass Strait shipping subsidies - at the same time as all interstate highways become cost-recovering toll roads.

Mark Duffett, perhaps you have never heard of fuel tax?

We motorists, & the road transport pay 5 times over for the roads we use. In fact probably a large chunk of what we waste subsidizing Tasmania, a state that refuses to earn it's own living, comes from our fuel tax. It certainly is not spent on our roads, which was the excuse for introducing it in the first place. That is why it was originally called road tax.
