The past is another country, with gilded memories, like any other.

...And should we mention family life with those shattered human remnants returned from the Second World War, and continuing visits of condolence to wives of those killed in action on the Korean front. And a life of a child in grubby army towns ruled by alcoholic violence! I don’t see much has changed for the better really!

Undoubtedly there was much stupidity in the past for which we can only say "good riddance", but that doesn't justify the world's current direction, that doesn't justify throwing the baby with the bath-water.

Where good old integrity and disciplines (as the article mentions parsing, analysis, grammar, and comprehension) are cast away, where tranquility and self-sufficiency are being sacrificed to the devil of technology, we need not wait for an external calamity (which will, thank God, come to relieve us in due course) - we already earned our hell in the form of an empty life.
