By Evaggelos Vallianatos, published 3/2/2011

The globalisation of our time impoverishes the many for the luxury of the few.

I love it ! The Greeks totally screw things up and rather then
face the music, we'll talk about Greek achievements a couple
of thousand years ago and blame those pesky evils, capitalism
and globalisation, for the the Greek disaster.

Never mind Greek failure. We'll rationalise our way out of that
one quite easily, it seems.

I think all the posters here today agree that this article is below par. Why is it some authors are happy to respond to posters when others do not want come online and defend their arguments. That is the point of OLO after all isn't it?

I don’t know that it is the point of OLO for an author to be regarded as the initiator of debate by him/her with respondents to the article.
Perhaps it is more reasonable that the author has had the opportunity to put her/his case, and should then retire gracefully.

In the debate on an article, which follows among readers, it might be torn apart, lauded, shredded, reinforced, etc. by comments without interference by the author - whose turn has expired. A response providing some further explanation of a point might be appropriate, but that should not be mandatory. Let it be like a tome in the Great Library of Alexandria in Egypt - available for discussion by all. Incidentally, that library was founded by Ptolemy, not that young war-hound Alexander whose success in battle more rightly should be ascribed to the army developed by his father, Philip of Macedon.

I would think the author has a point regards who is plundering who.

In an era of globalisation, the following becomes true.

" one of the effects of structural adjustment is that developing countries must increase their exports. Usually commodities and raw materials are exported. But as Smith noted above, poor countries lose out when they

•export commodities (which are cheaper than finished products)
•are denied or effectively blocked from industrial capital and real technology transfer, and
•import finished products (which are more expensive due to the added labor to make the product from those commodities and other resources)
"

One can also think about Australia that now relies heavily on a few commodities for export, and then imports the finished products.

sadly much of what you say is true
as the ridicule of mindless idiots confirms

where you get it wrong is the con...that solar/wind can help
that is the globalist cabals solution..[to keep a new industry and a new tax sceme to keep industry globalisation going]

see these solar cells cost heaps..[in carbon and silver]
then they dont work at night..[meaning they still need all the coal burning infastructure..PLUS..the extra energy demands BUILDING..these things]

the recent cold weather..has revealed windmills dont like cold wether
and solar cells dont work under a foot of snow..[go figure]

the trouble is the greens have not only sold us out..but have drank the coolaid..[carbon isnt our ennemy..ignorance is]..

look lets get this solar sell thing straight
they cost a thousand bucks a panel...we need at least 8
so every one needs 8000...

[they need 40,000 dollars worth of limited silver...to make the circuts for 600 of the things

the artificial demand for silver alone..so far
has seen silvers cost jump..[trippled]..meaning more silver mines..more polution..as well as more industry etc

govt subsidises..the cost of this..thus neds extra taxes
and increased costs...[the only way the numbers work out is by govt..[or power suply companies..'buying back'..the solar power AT DOUBLE ITS COST

here in qld..it costs 44 cents[solar]
and then the buy it back off peak ..foa arround 10 cents
but hardly buy it back at the normal 22 cents THAT IS PAYING for IT

payed by thiose TOO POOR to get in on the solar scam

[in my case i use less that 60 dollars of normal rate]..its not worth me putting in 2500..to get the govts gift of 4000 plus..solar cells..and switch off the normal supply...and just buy off peak

the solar scam cant work without..globalists stealing from the poor
further impoverishing the have nots..while SUBSIDISING the big users that are slowly getting it all

you should have INVERTED the artivle
no one read the 2 de page

their comments are only on your historic joinder

solar is the one thing
that will ensure their SUBSIDISED-scam, works
